![Rory and wife]()
From the same writer who brought you
"Rory is a lock to win the PGA Championship because he's getting a divorce" comes "Rory is a lock to win the U.S. Open because he
isn't getting divorced."
The news of Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica getting divorced shocked the golf world back in May. Right after Rory won the Wells Fargo Championship, it became public that he had filed for divorce from his wife of seven years. There were usually only good things said about the McIlroy family, who welcomed their daughter Poppy into the world in 2020, so it was certainly out of left field (bad to make a baseball reference in a golf story, huh?).
But according to
The Guardian, it appears that Rory and Erica have had a change of heart. The couple have reportedly resolved their differences and plan on calling off the divorce altogether. McIlroy gave this quote when asked about the situation:
"There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game.
Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

That's great news for the McIlroys.
And it just might be great news for sports bettors. Let me be very clear that I'm not a financial advisor, and I'm definitely not a successful sports bettor, but when I called for Rory to win the PGA Championship when he was headed for an apparent divorce back in May, I was wrong. And I apologize if you bet and lost because of what I said.
But... could we use a little reverse psychology here and safely assume that because McIlroy is
getting back together with his wife after almost splitting up, he's a virtual lock to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 this week? I don't see the harm in being happy for Rory and his family and thinking his mind could be at ease this week, which in turn could result in good play at the third major of the year.
It's a good thing that Rory did get everything settled
off the course, because
on the course, Pinehurst No. 2 looks like it will be quite the test for the brave professional golfers that will go to war with it in the coming days in hopes of being crowned the U.S. Open Champion.
Just look at some of these videos that have gained a lot of traction online depicting how difficult the course could play this year:
