Tom Brady

$89,000 for... a pair of used pants? Tom Brady is one of the greatest athletes in the history of all sports, don't get me wrong. But he's that much of a G.O.A.T. that there's that big of a market for his game-worn pants? I could maybe understand that going price for a jersey, but the pants going for that much money seems absurd. The business around sports memorabilia is booming. Trading cards have had a big comeback in the past decade, and any and every sports fan is trying to get their hands on a keepsake they can put in a shadowbox and show off to their friends. One lucky fan (or dumb fan, depending on how you look at it) added to their collection recently when they forked over $89,000 for the last pair of pants that Tom Brady ever wore in the NFL. Good for them, I guess, but do they not remember that the seven-time Super Bowl winner has a knack for coming out of retirement? If Tom Brady does decide to lace them up again, it wouldn't be the first time that someone who bought Brady memorabilia got screwed. Back in 2022, Tom's last touchdown ball sold for $500,000 at auction... and then he un-retired and threw more touchdowns. The value of that ball plummeted to less than $50,000 overnight. But surely a pair of pants would hold their value more if the 46-year-old quarterback changed his mind and came back to play some more, right? Right? (I imagine that's what the person who bought the game-worn slacks is saying nervously right about now). The size 34 pants were worn in Tom Brady's final game as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, when he and his squad lost in the 2023 NFC Wild Card to the Dallas Cowboys. There's a handwritten line in the waistband of the date the game was played, as well as the opponent Tom and Tampa Bay went up against. How can you tell that they are Tom's pants? There's a tiny little Buccaneers logo with the number 12 on the tag. The owner of the pants will just have to tell the friends they are trying to impress to squint real hard to see the proof that they were Brady's, and that the purchase was worth $89,000....
