Yankees Dad Makes Catch Of The Year

Is the “Dad of the Year” award locked up?

We’ve all heard of “Dad Strength” right? The term is usually used to describe the unbelievable and non-sensical strength that most dads (who don’t work out all that much) typically possess. I don’t mean to make things personal, but my father has the calves of an Olympic runner… and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do calf raises.

He’s just built like that, as are most dads.

And I’m starting to think that there might be more to this “Dad Strength” than we initially thought. After watching this video below, it sure seems like dads might also have the ability of super anticipation. At the very least, this New York Yankees fan – who is also a father – has incredible hand-eye coordination. So much so that he didn’t even need the eye part.

A father and his daughter were attending a game between the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium earlier today when a ball was thrown up to them from the field. The dad, who was certainly ready for a baseball to come his way considering he was rocking a baseball glove, started to lift up his mitt to safely secure the souvenir.

His daughter was sitting a top his shoulders, anxiously and excitedly anticipating the baseball that was on it’s way. It was all going swimmingly and accordingly to plan… until the little girl decided to put her hands over her dad’s eyes. Yeah, that’s right. She must have thought that the routine snag would have been too easy for her father, so she upped the ante a bit by playing an impromptu game of peek-a-boo. Simply put, this is about as no-look as a no-look catch gets.

Check it out:

DA-NA-NA, DA-NA-NA (SportsCenter theme for those that are confused).

That’s a Top 10 play alright. It might even crack the “Top 10 Dad Catches of All Time” list, if that exists out there somewhere. The daughter’s covering of her father’s eyes could not have come at a worse time, yet the man was still able to catch the baseball. He’s an animal. He’s an athlete. He’s a dad.

I’ve heard that one of the keys to parenting is to expect the unexpected. This father certainly has that portion of being a parent under control, and it was textbook example of keeping your eye on the ball. He didn’t need to see the baseball into the glove… he placed the glove where the ball was going. That’s just fundamental baseball.

Shoutout to the father for capturing the souvenir (likely for his daughter) against all odds (his daughter). I’m thoroughly impressed, and so is the rest of social media:
