Somebody forgot to pause the scheduled posts.
Congressman Raúl Grijalva passed away yesterday at the age of 77 due to complications from treatment for lung cancer, which he had been diagnosed with last year. The Democrat from Arizona had served in the House of Representatives since 2003, and previously served as the chairman of the powerful House Natural Resources Committee.
But apparently, somebody forgot to tell his staff that he had passed away.
Hours after Grijalva’s death was announced, his Twitter account posted a tweet bashing President Donald Trump for his recent cuts to the Department of Education:
According to the dead congressman:
“President Trump’s latest reckless decision to fire thousands of employees at the Department of Education jeopardizes critical student aid programs, weakens protections for students’ civil rights, and undermines essential support for students with disabilities.
This move severely threatens every child’s access to a quality education nationwide. Trump and Musk are prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthy over the future of our students. It’s selfish, and it’s illegal. This radical gutting of the Department will mean funding cuts for every student.”

Shit-talking the president from beyond the grave. Gotta respect it.
Now obviously this was just a scheduled tweet that somebody forgot to stop after the congressman passed away. But the jokes immediately began flying after Grijalva’s posthumous tweet:
This tweet was posted AFTER Mr. Grijalva had died. Same way Democrats vote. The dude is dead. RIP

I've updated my last will and testament:
"Please bury me with my phone.
So I can keep shit-posting from the grave.
Like Raul Grijalva." https://t.co/1EEVuaEAIj

We’ve known for decades that Democrats keep voting even after they’ve died. Now we know they tweet from the grave as well, as this guy’s staff just kept posting in his name hours after he died. https://t.co/i1iuHhSSr3

Nice reminder that like 9/10ths of celebrity and political Twitter accounts are just sock puppets being controlled by random staffers, because this dude had been dead for hours when this tweet published https://t.co/frvWaTkNlY

Democrat staffers are out of control.
Their boss literally passed away and before acknowledging that from his Twitter account the had to attack Trump and Musk.
Sociopathic stuff. https://t.co/7tbC7Xqh2a

Honestly, everybody’s mad about the congressman’s account posting after he had passed away, but that’s the kind of hater I want to be. I’ve already told my friends that after I die I want them to keep using my Twitter account to talk all kinds of shit. Just let ‘er rip.
Grijalva’s account did acknowledge the congressman’s death a couple hours later, posting a statement from his staff:
“The Office of the 7th District of Arizona is saddened to announce the passing of Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva. Rep. Grijalva fought a long and brave battle. He passed away this morning due to complications of his cancer treatments.
More than two decades ago, Rep. Grijalva embarked on a journey to be a voice for Southern Arizonans in Washington, D.C. Driven by his community values and spirit, he worked tirelessly and accomplished so much — for Arizona and for the country.”

With his death, Arizona will now hold a special election later this year to fill Grijalva’s seat for the remainder of his term, which runs through 2026. And both parties will no doubt fight hard to win the seat in a battleground state, given the GOP’s slim majority in Congress.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see who Grijalva endorses from beyond the grave.
