Can’t imagine somebody wanting to be in a Broadway bar THAT bad.
Of course Broadway in downtown Nashville is popular with visitors to Music City, but for the most part it’s pretty much limited to tourists and bachelorette parties. Sure there are a couple of good bars down there that locals will visit, like Robert’s Western World or AJ’s Good Time Bar or Eric Church’s Chiefs, but for the most part Broadway is where we keep our tourists so they don’t ruin the other bars in the city.
My point is, the bars on Broadway for the most part aren’t all that great. Most of them are just cookie-cutter venues branded after a country artist. Massive six-story bars with bands that play more rock and pop than they do country. It is what it is, and a lot of people like it, but for the most part they’re nothing special. And they’re definitely not worth going to jail over…for most people.
But apparently one woman was desperate to get (back) into a Broadway bar recently, and ended up landing herself behind bars instead.
According to WSMV, police received several calls from an intoxicated women who claimed she had been “molested, stabbed and assaulted.” But when they got to Broadway Brew House, staff told them that a woman had been removed from the bar earlier and was apparently pretty angry about it.
The caller had described herself as a white woman with blonde hair – but employees of the bar said that she was actually a Hispanic woman in a dress. Easy mistake to make when describing yourself.
Well police were able to track down the woman, who was later identified as 29-year old Victorria Gutierrez. But she denied calling 911 and said that she was simply trying to find her friend after being kicked out of the bar.
Could be a mixup, right? Maybe the woman who was kicked out of the bar wasn’t the one who called 911, and somebody else was wandering around downtown Nashville after having been assaulted.
Police then asked their dispatchers to call the victim’s phone – and to absolutely nobody’s surprise, Gutierrez’s phone began to ring. Busted.
Apparently the woman tried to play it off and pretend to be on the phone with her friend, but at that point officers knew they had the right person. And when asked why she had reported being raped and stabbed, the woman reportedly told police that she was just so that police would show up to help her find her friend.
Gutierrez had reportedly called police 18 times between 11:45 pm on March 6 and 1:39 on March 7. And the kicker in all this? According to records from the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk, her birthday was on March 6 – so apparently she was out celebrating her birthday with her friends during all this.
Well unfortunately for Gutierrez, officers determined that she was a danger to herself so they arrested her for public intoxication and making a non-emergency 911 call. She was later released on a $100 bond, and will return to court on March 28.
Tough way to end her birthday, but let this be a lesson: No bar on Broadway is worth a trip to jail.
