Canada’s Moosehead Brewery Responds To Trump Tariffs With 1,461-Can ‘Presidential Pack’ – “Enough To Get Through The Full Presidential Term”

Gotta hand it to Canada on this one…. the “Presidential Pack” is pretty clever. You know, minus the fact that beer doesn’t last for 4 years…

In case you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of months, the rivalry between the United States and Canada has never been more intense. That’s because, for the most part, the two neighboring countries have generally been… neighborly. But now that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on tariffs, America and Canada are experiencing some tension. Canada’s Liberal Party recently chose Mark Carney to succeed Justin Trudeau, (he stepped down because he was so hated by the people in Canada), but I’m not exactly confident that will help US-Canadian trade relations.

But that tension has been most apparent during professional sporting events that feature teams from both countries. Citizens from Canada have started booing the U.S. national anthem, and vice versa. It all seemingly got started at an NHL game last month (after President Trump initially announced the tariffs), and it’s continued into March. Now, even Canada-based companies are getting in on the “tariff tussle.”

Canada’s Moosehead Brewery, which was founded in 1867 (the same year Canada was founded), came up with a way to encourage Canadian’s to buy local. They put together a case of beer that dwarfs all other cases of beer. That’s because their new “Presidential Pack” includes 1,461 cans of Moosehead beer. And there’s a reason why they came to that specific number, as they explained in their social media post:

“1,461 473mL cans of Moosehead. Just enough Canadian Lagers to get through a full presidential term. The Presidential Pack is only available to customers in NB, NS, & ON.”

Canadians that are interested in buying the beer in bulk would have to fork over around $3,500 CAD, which equates to about $2,400 USD. And if they were to drink a beer day, that would effectively get them to the end of President Trump’s second term. Obviously that’s a little anti-American… but I’ve got to admit, I respect the pettiness of Moosehead’s move.

They’re doing this because their brewery is about to get hit with a 10% tariff on aluminum lids, which they get from the United States. The brewery that’s as old as Canada itself is also expecting to be hit with a tariff on their exported beer. Moosehead has traditionally sold about 20% of their products to the US.

Karen Grigg, one of Moosehead’s directors of marketing, had this to say in a press release:

“If the start of 2025 has taught us anything, it’s that it will take determination to weather four years of political uncertainty—and what better way to make it through each day than with a truly Canadian beer. While we can’t predict how the next four years will go, we have a feeling that this large pack will come in handy.”

And to be transparent, I’ve partaken in Moosehead beer, and it’s a rather delectable brew. Will I be paying more for it if the tariff’s cause the price of the beer to increase? You best believe I won’t be. I’ll be sticking to an American brew instead, and I definitely wouldn’t mind to see an American brewery offer up a case that matches the Moosehead “Presidential Pack” number (for no political reason at all… just so I can buy beer in bulk).

If they did, I’d just have to figure out where I can store almost 1,500 beers. I guess I could just turn my guest bathroom into the “beer room” if need be. But let’s be honest… beer doesn’t last for 4 years, so while the premise is funny, it doesn’t even make actual sense.
