NYPD Detective In Hot Water Over Starring As An Exotic Dancer In Rapper’s NSFW Music Video

All policemen and policewomen typically swear to protect and serve when they join the force… and this NYPD detective was definitely serving.

Melissa Mercado, a detective of seven years with the NYPD, is currently facing some backlash after she appeared in a music video in which she was scantily clad and pole dancing. The video was posted by World Star Hip Hop a couple of weeks ago, and it’s already garnered over 1 million views.

Rapper S-Quire put together the music video to go along with his song “Doin That.” It’s unclear how Mercado was tapped to play the role of “stripper” in the music video, but she was. And she really went for it to say the least, as a beat and S-Quire’s poetic lyrics played over the top of the footage. Here’s just a small sampling of the songwriting “Doin That” was working with:

“I like the way she’s doing that, the way she’s sliding up the pole.”

Records indicate that Mercado is a grade three detective who specializes in special victims in the Bronx. She reportedly makes $144,000 a year, and joined the force in 2018. Though her name nor her day job makes an appearance in the music video, law enforcement officials have confirmed that the woman in the “Doin That” video is, in fact, Melissa Mercado.

Though it definitely causes some concern, with one fellow detective apparently at a loss for words seeing Mercado in the music video, there are some that feel as though the detective has every right to do something like this outside of her NYPD duties. One police union source that talked to The Post suggested that Mercado did nothing wrong appearing in the music video:

“What she’s doing really has nothing to do with her as an employee, as an NYC detective. She’s not wearing NYPD paraphernalia. Nothing in the video says she’s a detective. If she is performing for money, if she has a side gig, the job would want to know about that. The member would be obligated to file an off-duty employment application. I would say nothing she does in the video is the department’s business.”

And that’s honestly a respectable argument.

However, having one of New York’s Finest do something like this is obviously going to draw some unwanted attention to the NYPD. I mean… this has become a national story. So everyone that works with Mercado is certainly aware of the music video that she starred in while she was off-duty.

And as the news has grown that the star of the video above is an NYPD detective, the comment section below the YouTube video has slowly caught up with “I can’t believe this is a detective” commentary like this:

“Damn she ain’t getting those hours at work.”
