Pat McAfee Reveals Disgusting Messages Directed Towards Him & His One-Year-Old Daughter Amid Canada Beef

The line has officially been crossed in the Pat McAfee versus Canada saga.

In case you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of months, the rivalry between the United States and Canada has never been more intense. That’s because, for the most part, the two neighboring countries have generally been… neighborly. But now that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on tariffs, America and Canada are experiencing some tension.

That’s been most apparent during professional sporting events that feature teams from both countries. Citizens from Canada have started booing the U.S. national anthem, and vice versa. It all seemingly got started at an NHL game last month (after President Trump initially announced the tariffs), and it’s continued into March.

Specifically, during the WWE Elimination Chamber event in Toronto this past weekend, Canadians booed the national anthem prior to the “wrasling.” Pat McAfee didn’t like that, and called the country of Canada “terrible” before the WWE event officially got underway:

Seems to me like Pat McAfee was just in “wrestling personality mode,” but that comment evidently angered the people up north.

There was apparently so much noise around it that Pat felt the need to address the backlash during a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show. The sports personality took a moment to directly speak to Canada and defend himself for calling their country terrible. Here’s how he started things off:

“Now, Canada. Listen. There’s been some things said to me from Canadians that I guess I respect, because of the passion that you have for your country, which I hope you understand that I was showing the same for mine. 

During the national anthem, obviously the Rogers Centre, overwhelming boo. I mean, very loud boo. First reaction whenever the national anthem starts up there was for some of these Canadians just to start booing and I’m like, ‘What?’ Okay. My entire life, my first reaction when somebody boos the national anthem is, f**k you.”

The outspoken sports media personality then went on to say that he didn’t care to get into the weeds with all of the political back-and-forth between the two countries:

“I understand there’s political differences at the current moment between us and Canada. But I feel like any time I think of Canada, I don’t think of what Justin Trudeau does. I don’t think immediately of Justin Trudeau’s decisions. I don’t think immediately of what Canada is doing in the political sphere.

I think of the people of Canada. I understand, now, from the Canadians, that they have a lot more passion for their country than I could have ever imagined. A lot of terrible things have been said about me, and I understand it. You boo my country, I called your country terrible, let’s shake hands.”

I truly think that Pat expected the, “Let’s shake hands” sign off would effectively end all of the controversy that was swirling around him. Unfortunately, it appears that Canadians and whoever else that was angered by McAfee calling the country “terrible” are still very much upset.

So much so that one social media user took to direct messaging Pat on Instagram with some nasty, abhorrent comments and death threats. The sports show host shared a screenshot of the hate mail he was getting on his own Instagram story, and included this caption:

“Good morning beautiful people. Standard Wednesday over here. Just some random wishing death upon me and my daughter. Hope you all have a great day.”

If you are to click into that screenshot of Pat’s post on his Instagram story, you’d see that the person called McAfee “pathetic,” “d**kless,” “punter,” and even shared “I hope that little brat f**king dies” in reference to a picture that the sports personality had posted of his one-year-old daughter. The last message visible, which is cut off at the very end, reads something like “If you want to sh*t on free speech, you better be ready to die.” Which in itself is a little confusing, because Pat McAfee was just exercising his free speech when he said Canada was a “terrible country.” And that was only after Canadians used their ability to speak (and boo) freely during the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the WWE event.

The account is @spritegeist and has certainly received a ton of comments in response to those repugnant comments about McAfee’s daughter. Dude is also apparently an “artist” but I don’t think anyone is gonna be buying anything anytime soon…

But at the very base of things, directing death threats at Pat McAfee for this is absolutely absurd. Forwarding those death threats to his infant daughter is deplorable and uncalled for. Pat continues to handle all of this like a champ, but you’ve got to think that someone bringing his family into all of this bothers him a bit. McAfee is a showman, and he was just countering Canada’s boos with a comment of his own.

And, of course in 2025, that means he’s now receiving death threats…
