Not the response I think she was wanting…
You must be prepared for potential hate whenever you post something on the internet. As someone who is chronically online, I always expect some negative comments to be made about what I share. If it’s not left in a comment, it’s probably being said to a friend of a friend. However, when you post something that might be deemed a “hot take,” you must be prepared for the worst.
One TikTok user recently shared a video, and I am sure she thought the internet would be on her side, but in fact, the internet was far from agreeing with this woman.
A month ago, a North Carolina woman shared a video clip of her telling off a waiter after the server called her man “sweetheart” during their date night. Instead of causing a scene in the restaurant, she decided to “show” the server by leaving her no tip.
“Don’t call my husband sweetheart.”
She signed the check.
However, even though she signed the tip line with a zero dollar amount when writing out the receipt’s total, she ended up tipping her two cents.
While sure, if you’re a protective spouse, hearing another woman call your husband sweetheart might not be your name of choice, but given this woman is based in North Carolina, everyone in the South calls anyone “sugar,” “sweetheart,” or “honey.” While it might not be what you want to hear another woman calling your man, it’s the equivalent of a “yes sir” in some parts of the South and is a term of endearment more than anything else.
I know I love getting called “sugar” by my local Waffle House waitress all the time and have never batted an eye when they call my boyfriend “sweetheart.”
But for this woman, it did not fly.

While she thought she was really telling off this woman by sharing on social media, she tipped her zero dollars; the internet heavily disagreed and dragged this woman into the comments section. The video has nearly 10 million views and close to 6,000 likes, the majority of the commentary being hostile toward this creator.
Hilariously, there were MANY comments about how she did tip this girl, even though it was just two cents. This poor woman is getting dragged for this decision and her inability to do math.
Check out what some of the viewers are saying.
“This is not the comment section she wanted. Lmaoo boo.”
“I hope she f**ks your man.”
“Insecure and BROKE. Pick a struggle.”
“Corny lame booo tomato tomato.”
“If you’re broke, just say that.”
“Insecure, broke, AND can’t do math??? Girl…”
“You definitely put your 2 cents in!”
“As someone who works at a restaurant, I have a coworker who calls everyone love, sweetie, etc.. it doesn’t matter how old or who they are. I promise she doesn’t want your man.”
“Women like you shouldn’t go out.”
“Oh BROTHERRRRR.”
“Girl, I was a waitress for a few summers, and I call everyone honey. Men, women, kids. I had someone petty not tip me.”
“The comments are top tier.”
“You not being able to do basic maths or even copy numbers down says all we need to know…”
“Comments did not disappoint.”
“The 2 cents sent me straight to bed.”
