How did Yeti get dragged into this?
The social media manager for Yeti Coolers probably had a minor heart attack when they logged on today to see their brand trending. But there’s no way they could have guessed why Yeti was going viral.
Well it all started when a man took to X (still feels wrong not calling it Twitter) to accuse former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. of having an affair with his wife. (It’s a wild ride so hang in there).
Smith played most of his career with the Carolina Panthers, but spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before retiring. During his career, Smith was a 5-time Pro Bowl selection, the 2005 leader in receptions and receiving yards, and at the time of his retirement ranked 7th in all-time career receiving yards.
And according to Tony Martinez, the retired football player and current broadcaster has been, in his words, fucking his wife, who works for the Ravens marching band:
“My wife works for the Marching Ravens. She met Steve Smith Sr at work. Steve Smith has been fucking my wife. I got receipts, I got a lot more homie.”
Since retiring, Smith has kept a close relationship with the Ravens (some more than others, apparently). And this past year, the NFL released a video of Smith spent time with the Ravens marching band, learning their routines and working with their members – and according to Martinez, doing a little more than that.
Martinez also posted screenshots of text messages allegedly between his wife and Smith. And he also posted a voice recording allegedly of himself confronting Smith about the affair, showing off Smith’s phone number as the retired football player only responded “I’m sorry” before going silent.
@SteveSmithSr89 you a bitch. You talk a lot of shit on tv but that’s all you about. Grab my pocket bitch. @TMZ @Ravens @AB84 @Panthers pic.twitter.com/HKmeRBW4uJ

So what do Yeti coolers have to do with any of this? Well, along with several media outlets, Martinez tagged a number of brands including Yeti and Taylormade Golf in his tweet exposing the alleged affair:
@AB84 @espn @tmz @Panthers @SteveSmithSr89 @NFL @nflnetwork @GhostGolfClub @TaylorMadeGolf @YETICoolers @shadyrays My wife works for the Marching Ravens @Ravens She met Steve Smith Sr at work. Steve Smith has been fucking my wife. I got receipts, I got a lot more homie. pic.twitter.com/YuT1hO1rV8

The tweets quickly went viral, because who doesn’t love a scandalous affair involving an NFL superstar. But many on social media were confused trying to figure out exactly how Yeti got brought into this whole messy situation:

There is a social media manager who works for Yeti Coolers writing the craziest email to their executives right now trying to explain why they’re trending.

Martinez also tagged Antonio Brown in the tweet, and the former NFL wide receiver was apparently confused about what he had to do with the situation too:
WTF I got to do wit it #CTESPN https://t.co/a1oF3qh61p

Smith has yet to respond publicly to the allegations, but it appears that Martinez tagged all of the sponsors in his Twitter bio while trying to get his attention – which is where Yeti and Taylormade Golf got brought into this.
For his part, Martinez has continued to post photos that Smith allegedly sent to his wife as proof of the affair, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to stop until he gets Smith’s attention on the matter.
Still not sure how Yeti is going to stop Smith from fucking this dude’s wife though. Tough day for their social media team…
