With Bryce Harper’s Help, A New Jersey High Schooler Got Himself A Prom Date

She probably would have said yes anyway but having Bryce Harper by your side sure doesn't hurt. I have to take a second to brag on my Phillies. Not only were they the first team to hit 30 wins and go 20 games over .500 but the roster is filled top to bottom with easy to like, fun loving dudes. The last two years have been fun for Philly sports fans but this year is shaping up to be extra special, at least that's what we're hoping for after a World Series loss in 2022 and a shocking upset at the hands of the dang Diamondbacks last year. Admittedly, Bryce Harper, the centerpiece of the offense, hasn't quite played at the MVP level we've been used to (granted, throw his numbers on any random player and the media would be singing their praises), but he's been getting hot lately and I'm betting that stat line is going to be nice and pretty by the time midseason rolls around and he'll be back in contention for the league's top honors when the postseason rolls around. Harper switched over to first base this year after playing right field for most of his career, and while he's racked up an impressive 135 assists over his 13 year career (third most of any active player) he got an off-field assist the other day that's got the internet smiling from ear to ear. Somehow, a high schooler named Jake Portella was able to get in contact with Bryce to ask if he'd be willing to be his wingman to secure a prom date. We still haven't heard the entire backstory but Harper made the schedule work and showed up to help out. The two walked up to Julia's house, rang the bell, and when she answered the door she couldn't have been more surprised. Bryce did most of the talking, saying: "Hi, Julia! Jake wants to ask you to prom, so I thought I'd help him out... so will you go to prom with him?" Of course, she said yes, but the internet is laughing a bit at the fact that she hugged Harper before her date, but hey, I'd hug Bryce Harper if I could too so can you really blame her?
