Lukes Grimes Says Fans Get Mad At Him For Kayce Dutton’s Decisions On ‘Yellowstone’: “It’s A TV Show I Don’t Write… They Should Probably Get Over It”

Luke Grimes culture

Fair enough. The Yellowstone series finale (although they keep referring to it as the Season Finale) is slated for this Sunday evening, and we'll finally know the future of the Dutton Ranch, something that has been a focal point of the show since the very beginning. With patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) off the show, his kids Beth, Kayce and Jamie are all trying to figure out what to do, and of course, Jamie is at odds with both of them as Beth grows increasingly suspicious about Jamie's involvement in the death of their father. To be honest, I've found this second half of Season 5 pretty boring, and I really could have done without creator and writer Taylor Sheridan injecting himself into a large part of the last episode for pretty much no reason at all... and I knew beforehand that Bella Hadid has been active in the Western world and is dating real life cowboy Adan Banuelos, but Sheridan writing her in as his girlfriend for Yellowstone is just objectively hilarious for obvious reasons. All will seemingly be revealed this Sunday, and of course, the Yellowstone stars have been doing tons of press in the lead-up to the finale, including fan-favorite Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, along with Kelsey Asbille who plays his on-screen wife Monica Dutton. They sat down with Town & Country, where they were asked what they would do if a fan of the show got angry with them personally over a decision their character made in the show. Luke admitted that this actually happens more than you'd think, and he has to remind them that it's a TV show that he doesn't write, and it's simply his job to "show up and say the words": "This happens, I know this happens to you too. We both deal with this. Well, I usually tell them it's a television show that I don't write. And it's my job to show up and say the words, and it's not real life, so they should probably get over it. I think what's refreshing about the last season is that they are happy for a bit. The show is very hard on Kayce and Monica. For a bit, you see them sort of enjoying themselves, but it doesn't last very long, unfortunately." It's crazy enough people would think this stuff in their heads, but to actually go up and air out their frustrations to a real life person, who is not actually the character they play ON TV, is just a different breed of human. Kelsey and Luke were also asked if they'd ever done an "intimate" scene after one of them had eaten something not so pleasant to smell, and Kelsey said they're both smokers, so anytime they do have to get up close and personal, it "cancels out": "I'm trying to think... no, you know what? You know what it is?  We are both smokers, and we had to do that CPR scene, but that's fine. But we both... so it's okay. It cancels itself out." I don't know what they'd do otherwise, but I guess it's a good thing they got cast in the roles that they did. You can watch the full interview below, and the season finale will air this Sunday, December 15th at 8:0PM ET on Paramount Network. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75lmhaT9mKg
