![Cop beats fan]()
What got into the cops who were on patrol at EverBank Stadium on Saturday for the Florida-Georgia game?
At least
a couple fans got the crap beaten out of them by cops, and without knowing much of the context behind that video, it still looked like some pretty egregious excessive force usage.

The black cop in particular was wailing on that one guy's head like he was literally trying to kill him. Now we have another gruesome video where a seemingly harmless fan gets into an argument of some sort, only to wind up getting a taser on him multiple times before being beaten to a pulp by makeshift brass knuckle handcuffs.

Now I can't say this with 100% certainty, but unless my eyes are deceiving me, it sure looks like the same cop dished out the most brutal punishment in both videos.
Typically when there are
awful fights at sporting events that have me questioning the collective goodness of humankind, they're quarrels amongst fans who most of the time don't look like they know how to even fight. They're often in a blind, drunken rage, throwing fists about some matter that'd be negligible if not for the booze involved. These videos involving the police hit a little differently.
In covering the initial cop beat-up video from this Florida-Georgia matchup, I was saying how law enforcement officers should realize that, in a situation like this, they're going to have the physical upper hand. They have their wits about them, they know how to corral dangerous criminals, and they're at a freaking football stadium for crying out loud. Unless you're dealing with some physically formidable fan, it strikes me as so unnecessary to get violent with anyone, never mind to the degree that the one cop does.
Who knows what that officer's background is or why he's lashing out in such an aggressive way. I just feel like it has no place in any context, save for a scenario where he's fighting for his life against some horrifying assailant.
Here's the only reasonable defense I can dredge up for the black cop: Between the time the fan in this video was initially tased, and when he gets the brass knuckle handcuffs to his mug, it sure sounds like he drops a hard-R n-word at the officer. Multiple times. Professional code aside, that might've launched the officer into a fit of rage.
Given the fact that it looks like this altercation happened before the one I covered last night, it's possible that carried over as the game wore on, and the cop was ready to just escalate any encounter with a dumb drunken fan into a full-blown fight. Not saying it's right. Just trying to put two and two together here to grasp how the cop could've possibly gotten this over-the-top retaliatory.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has announced that they're looking into the disturbing incidents.

There ought to be some form of disciplinary action handed down to the officers involved in these skirmishes.
Guess we'll all find out together soon enough...
