Florida Trolls Georgia With “Drive Safe” Designated Driver Reminder Ahead Of SEC Matchup

Florida Gators

Hitting them right where it hurts. Usually football teams wait until the game actually starts to start trading big hits, but the Florida Gators decided to get a head start on their marquee matchup with the University of Georgia this weekend. The No. 2 ranked Bulldogs will face off against the un-ranked Gators in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend in a neutral-site SEC showdown. Considering Florida has struggled mightily this year (2-2 in SEC play), it probably would have been smart for them to just focus on the game and no give the Gators any bulletin board material. But the social media team for Florida had other ideas, and sent out a post that looks harmless at first - if you aren't familiar with Georgia's recent off-the-field issues. According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the University of Georgia football team has had 24 players arrested for driving related incidents since January of 2023. That's astounding. A couple of players getting arrested while behind the wheel? Bad look, but could be drawn up as accidental. 24 players? In less than two years? That's what you call a real problem. So upon first look, it appears the Gators are just instructing their fan base to travel safely to Jacksonville for the game. In reality, they're pointing a big finger towards Georgia's driving woes (that they continue to sweep under the rug as they win games), and it's hilarious: "We'll see you in Jacksonville for Florida versus Georgia this weekend! But no matter where you're coming from, get there safely with a designated driver." https://twitter.com/FloridaGators/status/1852137247945986065 THAT is how you troll an opponent, and it's perfectly executed. Georgia can't even get mad for a post like that. The Gators could just say, "What? We can't tell our fanbase to be safe out on the road?" It's the ultimate cover for what's really a critical gut punch to the Georgia program. And it's good that Florida is getting a win before the game starts, because something tells me that this SEC matchup could get ugly. Even if the Gators get blown out in Jacksonville, they can rest easily knowing that they have one of the best social media digs of the entire 2024 college football season. And it was right there this whole time for any other Georgia opponent to use - but Florida was the first to have the guts to go through with it. And they are being commended for it online by social media users:
