![Nick Offerman]()
Yeah, I don't see this one catching on next 4th of July.
Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" has become a staple for patriotic celebrations. First released in 1984, and gaining a renewed popularity after the 9/11 attacks, there's no doubt that you hear the song hundreds of times around Independence Day. And honestly, I'm not mad about it. Other than Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue," there's not a better song to get the American blood pumping.
So of course, Hollywood has to ruin it.
Celebrities are tripping over themselves to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris since she became the Democrat nominee for president after Joe Biden announced that he was not running for re-election. And at this point it seems like they're trying to one-up each other with the cringe.
I'm sure these celebrities think they look normal, and that they're appealing to the ordinary voter, but honestly they just come across as out of touch and weird.
Like this rewritten version of "God Bless the USA" from comedian Nick Offerman.
Offerman is best known for his role as Ron Swanson in the hit series
Parks & Recreation. But unlike his character, who was a government-hating libertarian, the liberal Offerman has been an outspoken supporter of Democrats.
Last night, he joined a "Comics for Kamala" Zoom call (there are jokes I could make here but I'm trying not to get TOO political) and decided to perform his own version of Lee Greenwood's classic, changing the words from "proud to be an American" to "proud to be a Kamala man."
And yeah, let's just say it's a little cringey.
"So I'm proud to be on Kamala's side
Where I know I'll never see
Some spray-tanned tool denying a girl
Her ethnic identity
And JD Vance looks like a baby's butt
Underneath that creepy beard
So I say it loud and I sing it proud
Those guys are f*cking weird"
Yep, totally normal stuff there.
