It's official.
Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstonewill officially be returning for its dramatic series conclusion beginning on November 10th on Paramount Network. In a short teaser, featuring the Yellowstone signature "Y" brand resting in a hot fire, the network announced that Season 5 Part 2, the final season of the flagship series will be making its epic return... most likely without its main character, Kevin Costner, who plays the Dutton family patriarch, John Dutton.
November 10th marks nearly 2 years to the day since the premiere of Season 5 Part 1... which begs the question... why not just call it Season 6? It's been two years...
Either way... mark your calendars.

Yellowstone Spinoff Series
Production for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, the series finale, is finally underway in Montana, as Taylor Sheridan and Paramount look to wrap on the flagship series that brought us an entire universe of spinoffs and prequels.
Sadly, Kevin Costner, who plays the great John Dutton, won't be appearing in the finale (unless they come to some kind of agreement in the 11th hour), but with a premiere set for November of this year, Sheridan and company will look to end this chapter of the Dutton saga, and continue the story with a modern day spinoff series. It was rumored to star Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer, but so far, no deal has been reached on that, and it was reported that McConaughey wanted to see a script before agreeing to anything.
Of course, one of the big issues between Costner and Sheridan was the lack of a script for Costner to read before he continued to make Yellowstone a priority over his own movie, Horizon. On the other hand, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford both signed on to 1923 without seeing a script. Another prequel series, 1944, has been green lit by Paramount as well.
However, according to Hollywood insider Matt Belloni of Puck News, who has shared a number of accurate stories on the Yellowstone developments in the past few years, Yellowstone stars Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes are all finalizing talks to appear in the spinoff series.
"In better news, as I predicted, Yellowstone breakouts Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes have ended their standoff and are wrapping up deals to return for the sequel series. No movement on Matthew McConaughey or Michelle Pfeiffer, both of whom will need to be satisfied with the creative direction before signing on."
In what capacity? We don't know... but it seemed like the idea of any of them returning lost A LOT of steam as these production delays continued to stack up. Let's be honest... all these delays and issues, plus the Costner stuff, Yellowstone has lost all the momentum it had. Even after I publish this article, I know I'm going to get a bunch of "who cares?" and "who still watches Yellowstone?" type of comments.
Nevertheless, continuing the story with 3 of the 4 biggest stars in the show might just be a way to save it.
Belloni also reports that Costner might actually return for the series finale, but the way Costner has discussed the relationship between him and Sheridan, and perhaps more so the way things fell apart from the corporate level, I'm not so sure a comeback is in the cards.
"I still have a feeling Costner will end up in the series finale—the incentives for him, Sheridan, and Paramount are too great—but as of now there’s no plan."
I don't disagree, but we'll have to see if they can come to the table and get it done. I'm not optimistic...
Stay tuned...
