HBO's House of the Dragon, the prequel series to Game of Thrones, obviously shares a lot in common with the main show. Not only do you have characters in the same lineage of some of GOT's all-time greats, but the prequel show also brings a number of sex scenes to the complicated, gory fantasy story. And they all drive the plot forward, of course... that's what they are there for (that's a direct quote from boyfriends and husbands across America). For anyone that refuses to watch either of the series because of the gratuitous nudity, may I present to you some evidence that suggests the show runners aren't always looking to inject sex into the story for no reason other than they can. According to an interview with House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) that was published in Elle, a rather rough and "animalistic" sex scene was actually cut from the prequel series. After filming an intimate scene that would could describe as "sloppily intense," showrunner Ryan Condal actually cut the scene, as Cooke explained in the interview: "It was messy as f**k. It wasn’t beautiful, and that was really fun to do. I think Ryan said we weren't learning any more about the characters, which I disagree with slightly, but it's okay. It's his show." So that scene, which has made headlines, won't ever see the light of day... In a way, isn't that a little more awkward than if it made it to air? I'd imagine as an actor, if you go through a scene that seems to be as strange and intimate as it gets, you'd at least want going through the trouble to feel worth it, you know? You could tell that Cooke was a little disappointed that it got cut in the interview. As for some of the other... "between the sheets" scenes that the Alicent Hightower has filmed, those have actually been enjoyable (and not cut from the show) for the actress: "I thought there’d be way more, and so I'm relieved that when it has been used for me, it’s showing Alicent being pleasured, which is amazing and doesn’t feel gratuitous. It feels like we’re telling a story." See? What did we tell you? The scenes are there to tell a story...
