That’s how you know the beef is real.
Kyle Busch and Joey Logano are both fiery competitors on the track, so it’s not really any surprise that the two NASCAR Cup Series stars have clashed a few times over their long careers.
Actually that’s an understatement. I just think these guys flat out don’t like each other.
The rivalry between Busch and Logano goes back to 2017, when Logano spun Busch on the final lap of the race at Las Vegas while battling for 4th place. After getting out of their cars, Busch headed straight for Logano on pit road and punched him in the face, leading to a brawl that left Busch bloody and with some harsh words for his competitor:
“I got dumped. Flat out just drove straight into the corner and wrecked me. That’s how Joey races, so he’s going to get it.”
And just a couple years ago during the season-opening Clash at the Coliseum, Logano once again drove into the back of Busch and spun him out, leaving Busch once again heated at the driver of the #22 car for Team Penske:
“It’s really unfortunate to be raced by guys that are so two-faced. We were in the TV booth earlier in the night together and when we were all done with that he was like “Hey man, good luck tonight.” And I’m like “Ok great, thanks, yeah, whatever.”
And then lo and behold, there you go, he wrecked me. Don’t even talk to me if you’re going to be that kind of an asshole on the racetrack.”
Yeah, no love lost between these two.
The ironic part is that these guys used to be teammates, with Joey’s first ride in the Cup Series coming with Joe Gibbs Racing in the #20 car, while Busch drove the #18 car. But despite the fact that Busch and Logano are the only two full-time Cup Series drivers who have won multiple championships, there’s clearly some bad blood between the two.
And not just on the track, apparently.
Busch was recently a guest on the Actions Detrimental podcast with Denny Hamlin. And during their conversation, they got to talking about kids, with Hamlin having a baby on the way in the very near future.
Obviously having a child in the middle of the season always presents some challenges for drivers, who have to hope that the baby isn’t born on a Sunday when they would have to miss a race to be there for the birth. But apparently Kyle Busch had something else on his mind when his soon-to-be 10 year old son Brexton Busch was born:
“Brexton’s due date was on the 22nd, and I was like, ‘We are not having a Logano baby. F*** that.’ I was like, ‘Is 18 an option?'”
Gotta respect the rivalry going that deep.
Kyle ultimately got his wish, with Brexton being born on May 18, 2015 – which was his dad’s car number at the time.
But apparently Hamlin has a similar concern with the upcoming birth of his child, which will be his third with longtime partner Jordan Fish:
“Jordan’s due the 1st, there’s no way we can have a Chastain baby.”
Who knew that these rivalries ran so deep.
