This tour’s off to a rough start…
Beyoncé is on the road for her Cowboy Carter tour, which kicked off last week in Los Angeles in support of her latest “country inspired” album released last year.
The tour was long-anticipated by her fans, and came on the heels of the pop superstar cleaning up at the Grammy Awards earlier this year. Beyoncé and Cowboy Carter scored 11 nominations including “Best Country Album” and “Album of the Year.” The 43-year-old artist ended up taking home both of those awards, along with Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus, bringing Beyoncé’s lifetime Grammy Award total up to 35 – the most of any artist in history.
But after tickets went on sale for the tour, there were rumors that Bey was having trouble selling tickets, with fans complaining about the low resale price for tickets after paying big bucks to get them when they first went on sale. In fact, just days before the tour kicked off at SoFi Stadium in California, tickets were going for as low as $20 or $30 – a far cry from the hundreds of dollars that they originally cost.
Well despite all of the chatter beforehand, Beyoncé kicked off her Cowboy Carter tour last week in Los Angeles…but she’s already had to make some changes to her show after finding herself in some legal hot water.
Reports emerged a couple of days ago that the owner of the Las Vegas Sphere had sent Beyoncé a cease and desist letter over a graphic in a video shown during her tour. In the video, a towering Beyoncé could be seen walking down the Las Vegas strip and picking up the Sphere.
The whole thing only lasted a few seconds, but apparently it was enough to get the attention of the owners of the music venue.
Of course fans were hoping that the scene was an Easter egg, maybe a clue that she would soon be announcing a residency at the sphere. But apparently that’s not the case…
According to the letter from attorneys for Sphere owner Sphere Entertainment Group, the visual “resulted in significant speculation that Beyoncé will end her tour with a Sphere residency.” And attorneys gave her production company, Parkwood Entertainment, a May 5 deadline to remove it:
“SEG, however, was never asked and the prominent appearance and manipulation of SEG’s Sphere venue in the video is unauthorized.”
SEG demands that the tour cease and desist from using the Sphere venue in the video immediately, and refrain from using this imagery on any merchandise, promotional or marketing materials, or in tour movies, etc. Should you fail to do so, SEG reserves all rights to take further action as SEG deems appropriate without notice to you.”
After receiving the cease and desist from the sphere, fans at the May 4th show at SoFi Stadium noticed that the team had already made changes to the video, replacing the sphere with Allegiant Stadium, where the tour wraps up with two shows in July.

That’s not the only controversy surrounding the tour since it kicked off just a week ago. After the first night, fans took to social media to blast the singer for performing the National Anthem during the show, calling it “tone deaf” to perform the Star Spangled Banner during the Trump administration.
I would say I hope things get better for Bey, but I think she’s doing just fine regardless of all the drama…
