Not exactly a civil way to communicate with another concert goer.
Attending a concert can easily turn into a memory-making moment. There’s nothing better than buying tickets to see one of your favorite artists ahead of time, then anticipating and looking forward to the date of the event. Well… the only thing that actually is better is finally getting to that day and enjoying concert with thousands of other like-minded music lovers that become some of your closest friends for the night.
That being said, sometimes the power of live music isn’t enough to bring everyone together. We constantly see plenty of videos of fights breaking out in the stands of concerts, causing a celebration of music to quickly descend into a temporary (hopefully it doesn’t last long) fit of chaos. The footage below doesn’t exactly reach the chaos level, but it does bring up an interesting conversation amongst concert goers.
Can you stand at a concert? No matter what? Or should you have some awareness and comply with the rest of the audience if it’s a sit-down kind of thing?
As you’ll see in this video below, most fans attending this concert (not sure where, what or who it is) were choosing to sit down… except for two women in the front row of their section. Their decision to stand and dance angered one woman behind them that was trying to sit and enjoy the show. Eventually, the woman that was seated stood up, but only to yank on the dancing woman’s ponytail.

Yikes.
Seems to me that’s not exactly the right way to handle things. If you wanted to ask the person in front of you to pop a squat, that’s one thing (still questionable in my opinion). But I’ve always gone by the rule that when I buy my ticket, I’m reserving both the seat and the invisible cylinder that extends all the way up to the ceiling.
Translation: I can stand at the event if I wish.
Though it should be pretty agreeable that pulling on someone’s hair is not the way to resolve an issue, the above video has actually sparked a debate on concert etiquette – specifically the sit-or-stand portion. It was surprising to see that there were plenty of anti-standers that defended the ponytail puller with comments like these:
Believe that’s called a seated balcony for a reason.

The person in the front is in the wrong clearly since it seems everyone else is sitting down except her – which blocks peoples view from behind
But the lady in the back could have just tapped her instead of shoving her to tell her you’re blocking my view

They should not be standing if people paid for SEATS.

And it was reassuring to see that many people agreed with me, and shared that they felt the woman standing in the front row dancing and enjoying the show had every right to exist and persist vertically (that’s a weird way of saying “standing up,” eh?). They supported the ponytail pull-ee with replies like these:
The seats are just a place to organize people. You’re there to enjoy the show and that means standing.

It’s a concert. You don’t sit at concerts. If you chose to then that’s on you.
