A GoFundMe For The Teen Accused Of Fatally Stabbing A Texas High School Football Player Has Raised Over $15k So Far

Thought this was against GoFundMe’s rules?

Social media is up in arms after a fundraiser for a 17-year old accused of fatally stabbing a Texas high school football player has raised over $15,000 so far for the alleged killer.

17-year old Karmelo Anthony was arrested on murder charges earlier this week after the tragic altercation during a high school track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas left Austin Metcalf, a 17-year old linebacker from Frisco Memorial High School, dead.

According to NBC DFW, it all started when Metcalf reportedly told Anthony, who went to a different school, to move out from under their tent during the track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

A confrontation ensued, and a witness told police that Anthony said, “touch me and see what happens.” According to the police report:

“Austin grabbed Anthony to tell him to move and Anthony pulled out … a black knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest.”

After officers arrived on scene, apparently one referred to Anthony as the “alleged” suspect – but he quickly clarified that he was the one who stabbed Metcalf:

“I’m not alleged, I did it.”

Anthony also reportedly asked an officer if what he did could be considered self-defense, and says that Metcalf put his hands on him first.

Metcalf passed away in his twin brother Hunter’s arms, according to his father Jeff Metcalf:

“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms.”

Anthony claims that the attack was self-defense, but has been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. But his parents are defending their son, with his dad claiming that Anthony was not the aggressor in the attack:

“Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be. He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA.”

And over on GoFundMe, a crowdfunding campaign has already raised over $15,000 towards its $50,000 goal to support Anthony.

The description of the fundraiser, started by LaDarren Dewayne Trump, claims that the twins jumped Anthony and accuses the media of trying to destroy the teen’s name for protecting himself:

“So ask yourself: If two 200+ lb attackers came at YOUR child, what would you expect them to do?

And yet, despite everything, the media is trying to destroy Karmelo’s name. They keep posting a picture of him with an AIRSOFT GUN—not even a real firearm—to manipulate public perception. Why? Because they want to paint him as a criminal instead of a victim…

A life was lost, and that is tragic. But what’s also tragic is the way the media is twisting this story to fit their own agenda.

Karmelo defended himself against violent aggressors. That is NOT a crime.”

But over on social media, many are questioning whether the fundraiser violates GoFundMe’s policy prohibiting campaigns for those accused of violent crimes, a policy that was adopted in the wake of the arrests of January 6th protestors:

We’ll have to see if the fundraiser is eventually taken down. But in the meantime, the family of Metcalf has also started a GoFundMe to pay for the teen’s funeral expenses, and Jeff Metcalf says he’s already forgiven his son’s killer:

“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up. This is murder.

You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”

Heartbreaking situation all around.
