Nathan Fielder is back at it… but no one really knows what it is.
The Canadian comedian behind hit shows like Nathan For You and The Curse is back for a second season of his unlike-anything-else HBO show The Rehearsal. In case you missed out on season one of the show, let me just say that it was incredibly odd in the most perfect way.
If you’ve never watched anything from the weirdly brilliant mind of Nathan Fielder, he specializes in obscure and slightly uncomfortable comedy.
It’s not for everybody, but it just so happens to be right up my alley. If you’re interested in diving into his work, I’d start with Nathan For You first, and then maybe graduate to HBO’s The Rehearsal. The show doesn’t exactly come off as a comedy, but that’s done with some intentionality. And in the situation where you’re still lost, the first two seasons of The Rehearsal can be summarized by this synopsis:
“Nathan Fielder gives people a chance to rehearse for their own lives in a world where nothing ever works out as expected.”
That probably didn’t clear it up much, did it?
Much like the first season of the unpredictable show, it seems like the second season will include a number of various “rehearsals,” but one will take the bulk of the series to tell. As you’ll see in the trailer that was just released today, Nathan Fielder decided to focus in on commercial aviation disasters as the big, overarching storyline.
And it looks wild:

That trailer also begs the question… was this coincidental timing or what?
Everyone has been on edge in 2025 when it comes to the topic of airline travel. Back in January, an American Airlines flight crashed in Washington D.C. after a Black Hawk helicopter accidentally collided with it in mid-air. Then just weeks later, a Delta flight crash landed and ended upside down at the Toronto airport.
Now, this new HBO show about commercial airline disasters just so happens to come out? To be frank, it probably really is just coincidence. It’s likely that Fielder and HBO shot this TV series and wrapped up most of its production in 2024. The plane crashes and accidents that have happened so far in 2025 are just bad, horrible things with ironic, questionable timing.
And social media is pointing that out… and they’re still wondering if Nathan Fielder had anything to do with it:
omg was Nathan also behind the resurgence of domestic aviation crashes and near-misses?

So this is why we’re having so many plane crashes?
