Like cheap concessions at sporting events? How about FREE concessions?
Food prices at sporting events and concerts have seen a horrendous uptick in the past decade. If you plan on going to a stadium or arena near you, prepare to pay over $20 for a chicken strip basket, and good luck finding a beer for under $12. Things have truly gotten out of hand.
Some people refer to it as the “Stadium Tax.” That just means that once they’ve got you inside the stadium, they can pretty much charge whatever they want. Want a beer? Or a burger? Outside the walls of the event, you could probably get a beer and a burger for $10 or $15 bucks. Inside? You practically have to take out a loan if you want to eat and drink.
That’s pretty much how it is at any venue to you go to… though it won’t apply to Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium (located in Conway, South Carolina) this upcoming season. The Chanticleers football team should naturally have some more fans in the stands this fall, because they’ve introduced a wild concept for those that attend their games.
Fans eat free:
All games. All fans. Feast for free.

So what’s the catch?
Though speciality items, food from outside vendors, and alcohol will still require fans to pull their wallets out, the concession stand mainstays will be provided to attendees at no extra cost, as the Coastal Carolina athletic website explained:
“Ticket-purchasing patrons visiting the concession stands will be able to acquire four items per concession stand visit from a selection of hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and fountain drinks. There is no limit to the number of in-game visits, but fans must scan each trip through the line with the soon-to-be-launched Coastal Carolina Athletics App.”
An app that specializes in free food sounds like my kind of app.
Having to pay $10 bucks for a beer isn’t all that bad when you can pair it with a free hot dog and box of popcorn. And it also begs the question… if Coastal Carolina can do it, what’s stopping other venues from doing so? There’s been all kinds of talk about sports fans opting to stay home to watch the game instead of going in person. How do you get them back? You give them free food.
Some think this deal is too good to be true, and that Coastal Carolina will come out tomorrow on April Fool’s Day (be on high alert) and say it was all a joke. Others think it’s a brilliant marketing move, and a surefire way to get people in the stands of Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium.
Then you’ve got people that just love the idea of free food:
THIS IS HUGE
