It’s pretty hard to get away from politics these days, no matter how hard you try. We’ve gotten to the point that it seems like everybody expects you to pick a side, and if you’re not on the same side, you’re the enemy.
Obviously that’s not healthy for society, or friendships, or relationships, but that’s where we are. But the internet is convinced that one guy dodged a major bullet after his ex-girlfriend took to social media to explain how she broke up with him because he wasn’t liberal enough for her.
The video was posted by a young Nashville woman named Zoe, who explained that she had dated the man for 5 months but that they never really discussed politics. She also claims that she didn’t care about his politics, although that’s pretty ironic coming from somebody who spent 4 minutes talking about how she couldn’t be with somebody who didn’t agree with her…
“I’m a very liberal woman, so obviously I am obviously like, very much, everyone knows that I am a liberal woman. My brother’s gay, all my friends are gay, also like, abortion rights, female rights.”
She says the man told her that he was socially liberal but economically Republican, which was enough to make her dramatically fake choke. Totally normal reaction…
Well Zoe says that she asked him what made him “economically Republican” because she could give him “a whole bunch of fucking facts” that prove he shouldn’t be. And she told him to do the research himself, and that she would support him if he still decided that he was Republican.
The man said that he had better things to do than research politics, which honestly, respect. If you spend your entire life worrying about politics, you’re just going to be anxious and miserable anyway.
She says that the guy wasn’t even registered to vote, but that he told her he wanted to vote in this election – but she suspected he would be voting for Trump, so she didn’t remind him of the deadline and he ended up not getting registered.
“I could tell he was going to vote against me, let’s just say it like that. And so I was like, ‘He is not going to make an educated decision on who he votes for, so guess what, I’m not going to remind him of this voter registration deadline.'”
And when she asked him who he would have voted for, the man says that he was planning on voting independent, which was apparently too much for this open minded free thinker to handle.
“Do you know how harmful and basically wasteful that is? And also like, check your privilege by saying you’re going to vote independently.
And he was like, ‘Wow Zoe, I cannot believe that you think my vote would have been a waste.’ Ahh, shut the fuck up. Because it is a waste.”
Well she told him that he had to pick a side (remember how I said politics is all about picking a side these days?) and that she ultimately ended up breaking up with him over it.
“I’m a very liberal woman. I have to date someone that is on the same page as me, because I can’t disagree with someone on something that is so important to me for the rest of my life.”
Now, she goes on to say that she respects Republicans, but that’s a little hard to believe after she just spent 4 minutes talking about how she broke up with someone because he might have been a Republican. But anyway, folks in the comments agree that it was best they broke up – for the dude:

I hope this guy, whoever he is, finds a nice young lady soon. Sounds like he’s had to put up with a lot in his previous relationships so he deserves it at this point.
