First, a Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff, and now potentially a Kayce Dutton spinoff.
The Yellowstone era has officially come to an end. While the series finale left some fans disappointed when Kevin Costner left the show, leaving quite a few plotlines, others enjoyed the ending, finally seeing Beth get her revenge on Jamie and the ever-budding love story of Beth and Rip.
Whether or not you enjoyed how Yellowstone unfolded, you have to give it to Taylor Sheridan for creating such an immersive show and capitalizing on the Western world he created with 1883, 1923, and the upcoming prequels (1944 is already in the works). He even highlighted another part of America, highlighting the oil industry with another hit show on Paramount+, Landman, which instantly captured the hearts of Yellowstone viewers.
There is a reason Sheridan is the busiest man in Hollywood.
Fans of Yellowstone were thrilled to hear news of a Beth and Rip spinoff show, but then there was a rumor that it wasn’t happening. However, Kelly Reilly quickly squashed those rumors, responding to a fan’s comment on a post and confirmed that it IS, in fact, happening.
“So is the rumor that you and Rip are making a spin off season not true? Whatever happens, I’ve loved every second of every episode in every season. You guys are all amazing.”
To which Reilly responded:
“True.”
She later added that she wasn’t ready to let go of the character:
“Thank you for sharing this. You don’t have to be finished… a new chapter is happening. I wasn’t ready to let her go either… thank you.”
Now, there is speculation that CBS is interested in a Kayce Dutton spinoff show. Luke Grimes, actor turned country singer, would be the center of this show’s plotline, and according to Variety, CBS is in early discussions of a series.
“Exact plot details are currently under wraps and no deals are believed to be in place at this time. As with ‘Yellowstone,’ the new show would be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios as opposed to CBS Studios.”
The outlet reported and also noted that CBS declined to comment at this time.
Given that Grimes’ character served as the Livestock Commissioner during the show, I could see a plotline building off of that and creating a ranch of his own, after he and Beth sold the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation for $1.25 per acre, the same price his ancestors purchased it.
However, I can’t see this show being as big of a hit as a Beth and Rip spinoff show. Fans were stoked with the idea of that rumor, and given that Yellowstone fans are not keen on Monica, Kayce’s wife, I’m not sure this would be as smashing of a hit.
Who knows, maybe there is a world where a spinoff show follows both Dutton siblings as they embark on their next adventure.
Only time will tell…
Before you go, fire up some of Luke Grimes’ music.
