Horrible-yet-hilarious news out of New Castle, Delaware today.
I’ll start with the bad news. Many residents in the New Castle area had their morning commutes a little messed up. A broken water main caused a concentrated shower along Delaware’s Route 40 before the sun had even come up (around 5 a.m.). Repair workers responded to the scene quickly and attempted to figure out a way to stop the water.
Almost two hours after the initial break, water could still be seen spouting out of the ground and onto eastbound drivers. Emergency vehicles were placed to encourage drivers to slow down and drive along the shoulder of the road to avoid the hardest stream of water.
The clock struck 7:15 a.m. before the water main break was finally resolved. Crews working on the break were able to bring the out of control water spout to a stop, thus allowing for more drivers to get through the roadway that had become drenched and muddy after hours of water pouring from the main.
Ready for the good news?
Good Day Philadelphia was covering the developing story this morning when quite possibly the funniest green screen mishap took place. Two of the local news team reporters were checking out an overhead view of the water main break that was taken by a news chopper.
One of the men stood on the left side of the frame, while the other was on the right, and… well, this happened:

That’s just downright hilarious.
Now it does beg the question if this was done with any sort of intentionality. I really hope that it wasn’t, but I can’t blame the news station for trying to get some more clicks if that’s what they were after. Because if I’m being honest…. the positioning of the reporter on the right was almost too good to be true.
That being said, I’m not here to rain on anyone’s parade (pun intended). Let’s just enjoy this video for what it is. The genre of “Local News Gaffes” just got another, beautiful entrant. It’s not everyday that we get an amazing opportunity – and a potentially accidental pay off – like this one.
And social media was absolutely loving it:
He has got some pressure and range!!!
