What would we do without TikTok?
Well… for one, we might all talk to each other a little bit more. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood next to someone as they just mindlessly scroll through the social media app. And sure, I’ve been guilty of it from time to time too, but sometimes I do miss the small connection points that we humans used to have.
Secondly, without TikTok, we wouldn’t have people self reporting themselves for crimes. I’ve seen people share videos on how they are secretly living in a storage unit, and I’ve also seen people post “life hacks” which includes hiding a Red Bull inside of filled up slushy at the gas station.
There’s actually another word for these life hacks… stealing.
And now, a TikToker that goes by “Chaotic Carl” is spreading another one of those questionable-life-hacks. The New York City resident – who explains her channel as “where Snow White meets Robin Hood” – is spreading the word that all hotel breakfasts are free… if you are confident enough:
“There’s a girl on here who said if you walk into chain hotel that serves complimentary free breakfast (and) you walk in with enough confidence, you can get free breakfast. So this morning, I decided to test that theory at a Hyatt. And I was presented with a decision immediately: right or left. I picked right, which was correct. But then I got anxiety and I only took two things.”
@chaoticcarl Everything is #free when you’re #delulu #fyp #nyc #hack #foryoupage perks of being white am I right #white ♬ Anxiety – Doechii
That was her first post about stealing breakfast that went viral.
Since then, the TikToker has become more strategic in her pursuit for free hotel breakfast. “Chaotic Carl” has even made stealing hotel breakfast a series on her page, and has posted multiple times (and even offered up tips) about how to walk into a chain hotel and take what isn’t yours.
Some people have expressed concern that she’s openly videoing and posting about it:
@chaoticcarl Replying to @Karla to dox or not to dox #fyp #nyc ♬ Everybody Wants To Rule The World – Tears For Fears
Pretty wild, right?
On one hand, I somewhat appreciate her blind confidence in just taking food from hotels. And her defense is that they throw most of it out anyways, so she’s actually helping the establishments with their food management. However, most hotels work their free breakfast price into the rooms that they offer… and she’s clearly not a paying customer.
But she sure is acting like she’s one:
@chaoticcarl #unemployed tok hello it’s me again :-) I am using my #platform to try and get free food lmao xoxo #fyp #newyorkcity I got #fired for using a fake accent :-( #hotelbreakfast #foryoupage #bagel #jokes ♬ Espresso – Sabrina Carpenter
How do you feel about this? No harm, no foul? Or should someone bring the hammer down on this TikToker?
Though there are some people in the comment section that are claiming to live “vicariously through” the Hotel Breakfast Thief, there are plenty more that are suggesting that what “Chaotic Carl” is doing is no laughing matter:
“I believe they call that stealing.”
“I find it weird when people post videos of them committing crimes. Even if it’s a small nothing crime you’re still posting it for the world.”
“The entitlement is loud.”
“It’s f***ed up that people get away with this but they won’t feed the leftovers to the thousands of homeless in the surrounding areas.”
“Love it when people glamorize theft.”
“What’s more diabolical than eating breakfast for free at a hotel you don’t stay at?”
“Isn’t this stealing?”
Why yes, yes it is stealing…
