Spring Breakers Were Asked VERY Basic Questions About American History, & Their Answers Were Downright Frightening

Beware: watching this video might cause one to lose faith in humanity.

Specifically, the younger generations that are supposed to be our world’s “future.” I’m not sure I’ll be marching into the future with as much optimism after coming across this video of “Spring Breakers” answering naturalization questions in Clearwater Beach, Florida. And answering might be the wrong word to use there… attempting to answer the questions would probably be putting things more precisely.

Kaitlin Bennett of Liberty Hangout traveled to the Spring Break spot to see if those enjoying the beach could answer some naturalization questions. For those that might not be up to speed on what that means, basically these types of questions are on naturalization tests, and immigrants have to answer them correctly in order to lawfully enter into the United States.

Questions like:

“Who did the colonists fight in the Revolutionary War?”

“What shape is the U.S. Pentagon building?

“How many U.S. Senators are there?”

“How many amendments are in the Bill of Rights?”

“Who won the Civil War?”

“How many justices are on the Supreme Court?”

“Who is on the $100 bill?”

“How many original colonies were there?”

“What are the three branches of the U.S. government?”

“Name three states that border Canada.”

Obviously, some of those should be common sense. There are others that could require a brief recall session back to high school civics class. But at the end of the day, these types of questions are not hard… or so you might think. The video below shows that not all college level students are equipped to answer those American inquiries.

And one of them was an ELEMENTARY EDUCATION major.

To be transparent, I had to take a few minutes to gather myself (and keep myself from spiraling) after watching this video below. You’d hope that our younger generation – specifically those that are going to college – would know some more about the country they live in. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on a couple of questions (assuming they may or may not have been drinking on the beach), but getting some of the questions wrong are absolutely inexcusable.

Prepare to be horrified:

Holy smokes.

There were some questions that the Spring Breakers’ answers weren’t even in the same ball park. I mean… one guy said that “Judge Judy” was one of the Supreme Court Justices. I literally just sighed out loud as I typed that out.

It’s videos like these that make just a tad worried about the United States, and everyone in the comment section of the video agreed:

“Everyone is making jokes, but this is legitimately scary.”

“No child left behind left all children behind.”

“Time to bring back Saturday morning ‘School House Rock.'”

“These kids have a literal hyper speed encyclopedias in their pockets and STILL they know NOTHING!”

“They’re not even wise enough to be embarrassed.”

“It’s not that they don’t know the answers. That one guy genuinely did not understand ‘Name a state that borders Canada’ as in … he had no clue what those words meant. This is scary.”

“There is no way I was this stupid when I was 20.”

“Raise the voting age. Immediately. This is f**king ridiculous.”

“This is exactly why we are closing down the Department of Education.”

I second the motion to bring back School House Rock…
