There’s A Documentary Coming About The Hawk Tuah Girl Haliey Welch That Literally Nobody Asked For

What could there possibly be about this story that needs an entire documentary?

At this point pretty much everybody knows the Hawk Tuah girl, Haliey Welch. She went viral last summer after giving a man-on-the-street interview about how to please a man in bed, she remained a mystery for a few weeks before finally deciding to capitalize on her viral fame, and she was absolutely EVERYWHERE until she got caught up in a crypto scam late last year and went off the grid.

That’s it. That’s pretty much the entire story behind the phenomenon that is the Hawk Tuah girl.

But somehow they’re making a documentary about her now?

Announced today, the Hawk Tuah documentary is being produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment, the same production company behind documentaries about Jeffrey Epstein and the Idaho college student murders. According to the description of the project:

“The documentary will chronicle how Welch, a young woman from a small-town with no active social media presence, unknowingly created a viral moment that gave way into a global phenomenon.

On June 11, 2024, Welch became the most famous person online, amassing over 40 million impressions in a matter of days. The film explores her unexpected rise to fame, the scrutiny that followed, and exposes the incredible power social media has to crown and crucify its internet darlings.”

Welch has notably been out of the public eye since the launch of her $HAWK cryptocurrency, which is facing lawsuits after the meme coin reached a market cap of nearly $500 million before plummeting to $25 million after launch, leading to accusations of a rug pull and a pump-and-dump scheme.

Hawk Tuah girl has denied any involvement in the scheme, releasing a statement basically claiming ignorance and promising to assist with the investigation into the scam:

“I take this situation extremely seriously and want to address my fans, the investors who have been affected, and the broader community. I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter.”

But she returned to social media today with a video poking fun at some of the rumors that have surfaced since her disappearance, including that she had died, that she was pregnant, or that she was in jail.

Now, if the documentary is going to focus on the crypto scheme, that might be worth watching. But it sounds like it’s going to be more about Welch and her rise to fame. And what else is there to say about that? She made a blowjob joke, went viral, and cashed in with everything from her Talk Tuah podcast to a dating app.

Seems like a pretty short documentary to me.

Regardless, the CEO of the production company behind the film promises a documentary that will highlight the risks and rewards that come with overnight stardom:

“With only a single sentence, Haliey Welch went from an unknown young woman having a night out on the town to ‘enjoying’ 15 minutes of fame to global phenomenon who cemented her status in the pop culture lexicon.

There are very few people who know what it is like to achieve this level of fame and live under the 24/7 microscope known as social media. This documentary will serve as both an inspiring and entertaining story of Haliey’s journey, and a lens into what it means to navigate the risks and rewards that come with living in the public’s eye.”

The biggest question that I have, though: Who in the world asked for this?
