Lost the game, but still getting the invite to the White House.
There’s been a lot of talk about whether the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles would be visiting the White House after their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last month.
At first it was rumored that the Eagles had decided as a team to skip the traditional White House visit, in what was largely seen as a protest of President Donald Trump. But the team and Trump later clarified that the Eagles would, in fact, accept the invitation and would be heading to meet with the president at some point in the near future.
But as it turns out, they won’t be the only NFL team that’s visiting the White House this year.
President Trump sat down with Clay Travis, founder of OutKick, for an interview on Air Force One on his way to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship yesterday, where he revealed that he’ll also be inviting the Kansas City Chiefs after the team had to skip their visit in 2020 due to COVID:
“I look forward to having Eagles. And one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of COVID.”
Of course the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV back in 2020 over the San Francisco 49ers, but we all know what happened just a month later when the world shut down due to the pandemic – so the team never got to take the celebratory trip to the White House.
And Trump is a big Chiefs fan himself, having especially high praise for Patrick Mahomes after his mother, Randi Mahomes and wife, Brittany Mahomes, both supported him during the 2024 election.
Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl this year, and he had high praise for the Chiefs and Mahomes ahead of the game when he predicted that Kansas City would three-peat:
“I’ve watched this great quarterback, who has by the way a phenomenal wife, by the way. She’s a Trump fan, she’s a MAGA fan, so I happen to love her, ok? But she’s a great person. I watched her being interviewed, I said, ‘Boy, that’s pretty good.’
But she’s great. And he’s great.
I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he’s won, I have to go with Kansas City. At the same time, Philadelphia has a fantastic – it’s going to be just a great game.”
(Turned out he was wrong on two counts: The Chiefs lost, and it wasn’t a great game).
But during his interview with OutKick, he once again praised the Mahomes women
“I love those two women. They’re so great and so loyal. I think they did. I met, as you know, I met Patrick’s mother…
She came over. And Brittany, I’ve seen so much of Brittany that just, you know, being so loyal and great and beautiful. So it’s really nice.”
Not really a surprise that Trump would want to have the Chiefs at the White House, especially after he recently hosted kicker Harrison Butker who is himself a Trump supporter and anti-abortion activist.
I guess that’s a pretty sweet deal for the Chiefs: Get blown out in the Super Bowl and still get to enjoy a fast food buffet at the White House. Definitely helps that the President is a Patrick Mahomes fan.
