Joe Rogan not seeing eye-to-eye with the President?
That might seem a little surprising since Joe Rogan was one of the many influential media personalities that attended Donald Trump’s inauguration back in January. That being said, the podcast host has generally avoided stating any sort of political affiliation as he’s risen in his media career, or at the very least, he’s tried not to concretely side with one party over the other.
Prior to 2020, it did seem as though the podcaster leaned more on the Democratic side. He sort of (but not really) endorsed Bernie Sanders a while back. However, in the past couple of years, Joe Rogan has seemed to move towards the middle of the aisle – and one could make an argument that he helped out the Republican Party by interviewing JD Vance and Donald Trump on his podcast prior to the 2024 Election (he invited Kamala Harris to join the show but she declined).
One could also argue that the Democratic Party has moved even further left in recent years, pushing more moderate Democrats into what seems like the Republican side of the spectrum. Folks like Bill Maher have made this argument. And there’s definitely an argument to be made for Joe Rogan as well… though this time around, Rogan is directly going against something that President Trump has been outspoken about.
In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan spoke with one of The Daily Show hosts (Michael Kosta) and the topic of the tension (triggered by tariffs) between Canada and the United States came up. The podcast host swiftly voiced his disapproval with the disconnection between the historically neighborly neighboring countries:
“Why are we upset at Canada? This is stupid, this over tariffs… We’ve got to become friends with Canada again, this is so ridiculous. I can’t believe there is anti-American and anti-Canadian sentiment going on. It’s the dumbest f**king feud.”
But that’s not where Joe Rogan didn’t see eye-to-eye with Trump.
Rogan went on to say that he thinks the idea of making Canada the “51st state” isn’t realistic, and in disagreeing with President Trump there, he did make a concession that aligned with something the Commander in Chief has also suggested:
“I don’t know what is happening with their politics, but I just want America and Canada to get along, I think it’s ridiculous. And I don’t really think they should be our 51st state. There I said it. It would be fun if it happened. I think Greenland is more accessible. We could probably buy that if we want a 51st state.”
So it sounds like Joe Rogan doesn’t have interest in Canada as a 51st state, but he would back up Donald Trump in the United States acquiring the metal-rich territory of Greenland. Obviously Rogan and Trump disagreeing on one thing doesn’t make them enemies, but I’m sure some of the JRE listeners would have preferred for Rogan to join in on the calls to make Canada a part of the U.S.
