Minor League Team Announce “Oyster Catchers” Alternate Logo For Select Games, But It Looks More Like A Clam

How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Leave it to the sport of baseball to accidentally stumble upon comedy. The sport has been on fire in recent years when it comes to not realizing a mistake before posting something and/or making something available for purchase. First, it was the Oakland Athletics hat that literally spelled out the word “ASS” front and center. Then, it was the Texas Rangers “Overlap” hat that accidentally spelled out Tetas, or “tits” in Spanish.

And now, we’ve got this monstrosity of a mistake that a minor league team in Bowie, Maryland (Baltimore Orioles’ Double-A affiliate) rolled out while they were announcing their “alternate identity” for select games this season.

Sports teams – especially at the minor league level – are always trying to get their fans fired up to attend games, and often times, that means special jerseys for specially themed nights. The Chesapeake Baysox thought they would change things up for fans by becoming a team of a slightly different name for a couple of games this year. This is a common practice throughout the minor leagues (the minor league team in Nashville occasionally plays as the “Nashville Hot Chickens”), and is a great way to boost ticket and merchandise sales.

They team in Maryland decided to go with the Chesapeake Oyster Catchers:

Nothing wrong with that, right?

Well… just wait until you see the team’s alternate logo for the Oyster Catchers. The team initially made the announcement and showcased a different logo than the one you can see above, and something tells me that after the entirety of the internet collectively clutched their pearls (oyster pun intended), this Oyster Catchers alternate logo won’t ever see the light of day again.

See if you can tell why:

PUT THE KIDS TO BED.

Should I be warning you of a NSFW image popping up on your screen? I legitimately don’t know how to handle this. All I know is that if that logo was up on my screen and my boss walked by, I’d be pulling up the emergency Excel sheet PRONTO. It might even be worthy of wiping your search history… just to be safe.

And if you think that’s some sort of fake logo, I can assure that it’s not. If you are to visit the Chesapeake Baysox online team store, that questionable oyster logo is shown proudly on alternate jersey’s sleeve. Just a few days ago, a teaser that was posted by the minor league team also featured a sliver of the oyster catcher logo that now has the internet asking, “How did that get past quality control and upper management?”

The bottom right picture here to be exact:

If you consider yourself a fan of the Chesapeake Baysox and want to get a piece of memorabilia that would likely otherwise be burning in a pile in some discrete location so that no one ever sees it again, you’ll probably want to order the alternate Oyster Catchers merch quickly – or at least faster than the minor league team can scrub it off the face of the Earth.

Though if you aren’t interested in buying, you can kick back and read the hilarious comments that have flooded the announcement of the Chesapeake Baysox’s alternate “Oyster Catchers” logo:

Outstanding work Mr. Eric Fischer. As soon as my explicit Chesapeake Oyster Catchers hat comes in the mail, I’ll put it on just so I can tip my cap to you for those jokes…
