I’ve been hesitant to voice my excitement about the Happy Gilmore sequel… but I think it’s finally time to get PUMPED.
Back in April of 2024, Adam Sandler revealed that a sequel to the 1990’s classic Happy Gilmore was in the works. Though some were concerned that a sequel would potentially take away from the first film, others have been over the moon thinking about the possibility of seeing everyone’s favorite amateur-professional golfer back on the big screen.
And there have already been plenty of cameos confirmed for the film, including Travis Kelce, Eminem, Jack Nicklaus, and sports radio host Dan Patrick – who has been known to drop in for small roles on Adam Sandler projects. It has also been rumored that Tiger Woods will be featured in the film, but that has yet to be confirmed (though a bust of his head does appear in the trailer that’s linked below).
At the very least, other professional golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Will Zalatoris, Tony Finau, Keagen Bradley and many others playing a role in the movie. Oh, and how could I forget about the legendary golfer and Diet Coke (and cigarette) enthusiast by the name of John Daly. He’ll be in Happy Gilmore 2 as well, and he’ll apparently play somewhat of a bigger role in the film. At least bigger than Daly initially expected…
When he was asked about his character (Daly will be playing an exaggerated version of himself, which is saying something), the long-ball hitter stated that fans should expect to be wildly entertained by the sequel, and revealed what he could:
“Bud Martin from Wasserman (Media) approached me about doing ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ I said, ‘For Adam? Yeah I’ll do it. I’ll do a couple of things for him.’ But I’m doing a lot more. I guess I’m going to be living in a garage. That’s about all I can say. It’s going to be funny. I’m telling you right not. Get ready to cry laugh.”

And I’m also excited to see so many characters from the original film reprise their roles. Obviously Sandler is back to play Happy, but Christopher McDonald is also coming back to play Shooter McGavin, and Ben Stiller is also returning to play the small-but-mighty role of Hal L. – the stickler who worked at a retirement community in the 1996 hit.
Adam Sandler previously mentioned that the losses of Bob Barker (who played himself), Carl Weathers (who played Chubbs), and Joe Flaherty (who played the guy that yelled “jackass”) are considered irreplaceable, and he promised that all of those roles would be recognized in some way.
It’s clear that Sandler and everyone involved are working hard to make sure the second installment not only adds to the Gilmore-McGavin universe, but also honors the 90’s classic… and the official teaser trailer that was released today sure looks like it’s going to deliver.
