Rosie’s gotta be over in Ireland punching air right now.
Yesterday, former actress and washed up talk show host Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she moved to Ireland back in January, just a few days before President Donald Trump’s inauguration:
“I’m here in Ireland, and it’s beautiful and warm. No, physically it’s actually quite cold.
I moved here on January 15th and it’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming, and I’m very grateful.
I’m in the process of getting my citizenship, as I have Irish grandparents, and that’s what’s going on.”
And she also encouraged those who didn’t flee the country to continue to fight, taking a not-so-subtle shot at her longtime foe and the current president:
“It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically, and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know…
I encourage everyone to stand up, to use their voice, to protest, to demand that we follow the Constitution in our country, and not a king, not a man. And we don’t have cruelty as part of our governing style.”
Of course Rosie and Trump have a long history of…well, hating each other, dating back to at least 2006.
While she was a co-host of The View, Rosie criticized Trump for not removing the title of Miss USA from Tara Conner after a scandal involving her drug use, calling Trump a “snake oil salesman,” claiming that he’s “not a self-made man,” and bashing him for his multiple marriages, ending her rant with a message for the future president:
“Donald, sit and spin, my friend.”
Trump obviously didn’t take kindly to the remarks, calling Rosie a “real loser” and threatening to sue her for defamation:
“I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie.”
The two then went back and forth on Twitter for years, with Rosie often drawing criticism and insults from Trump:
Rosie is crude, rude, obnoxious and dumb – other than that I like her very much!

And then of course there was the infamous moment during the presidential debate in 2015 when Trump was asked by Megyn Kelly about his comments on women:
"Only Rosie O'Donnell."

So yeah, no love lost between these two, and it’s safe to say Trump probably wasn’t too sad to see her go.
But today, the president met with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in the Oval Office, and Martin was asked about his country’s newest resident by a member of the media:
“Ireland is known for very happy, fun loving people. Great attitude, many in this room right now that I’ve met. Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she’s going to lower your happiness level.”
While Martin seemed confused by the question, Trump clearly enjoyed it:
“It’s true. Thank you, I like that question. Do you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is? You’re better off not knowing.”

Man, tough look for Rosie. You move to a new country to get away from the president, and the very next day he’s roasting you in the Oval Office to your new country’s government.
Of course while Rosie says she’s getting her Irish citizenship, she didn’t rule out the possibility of returning to the United States at some point:
“Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year old child…
I miss my other kids, I miss my friends, I miss many things about life there at home, and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country. And when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back.”
Nah, feel free to stay over there, Rosie. We’re all good here.
