Taylor Sheridan’s hit show Landman has officially been renewed for a second season.
Paramount+ has officially ordered a second season, and though it doesn’t come as a surprise, fans have been anxiously waiting for a confirmation. Especially after the first season ended with a cameo from Andy Garcia that’s obviously meant to spin into a main character role in the second season
For some viewers, the hit show pulled back the curtain on the oil industry for the very first time. Sheridan loves to take a topic that people might not be all that familiar with and shape narratives around it. That was certainly the motivation for Landman, which set a streaming record for Paramount+ last year when more than 14.9 million people tuned in during the show’s first four weeks.
With those kind of numbers, it seemed like the Paramount production was a shoe-in for a second act… but months went by and there was no news about it’s renewal one way or the other. That being said, some of the cast members of the show had already been talking about a second season during interviews.
After being nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Tommy Norris, Billy Bob Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter that he hoped his nomination could help Landman secure a second act:
“The show has done very well, so it just stands to reason that they would do another one. But especially when you get a nomination for something – that draws attention to your show, so I think that helps. I can’t see why they wouldn’t. I imagine we’ll find it pretty soon, because if we were going to do one, we’ll have to start not too long after the first of the year.”
And it seemed like really good, concrete news about the future of Landman came in the form of a slip up by Demi Moore. She plays the character Cami, who is married to Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller. When the actress was at the Cannes Festival, she seemed to confirm a second season of the show:
“It’s a very interesting world in the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s kind of this subculture that we haven’t seen before, which is what I think Taylor does so well. I thought we looked really good.
He was lovely and I’ve known Billy Bob Thornton for a long time. I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second which will be at the beginning of next year.”
Shout out to Demi Moore for scooping that news a couple of months early.
Because now, the news is officially official, and the Landman saga is set to continue. And why wouldn’t it? The show gave Paramount+ it’s best debut in two years. It only makes sense to bring Billy Bob Thornton and the rest of the cast back to continue telling the story that has captivated fans and critics alike.
Chris McCarthy, the CEO of Paramount Global, had this to say about the success of Landman’s first season and the return of the hit series:
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth.
The series has helped drive Paramount+ to new heights as the #2 SVOD in the US for Original Hours Watched in Q4, alongside our other hit series Tulsa King, The Agency, Lioness and Dexter: Original Sin.”
To celebrate the news, you might as well fire up the “Best Moments of Season 1,” am I right?
‘Landman’ The Soundtrack
The latest series from Paramount Network’s billion dollar boy, Taylor Sheridan, Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace and more for an action-packed, West Texas, big oil drama that has captured the hearts of the American television audience.
If you haven’t given Landman a shot yet, Paramount+ offers a 7 day free trial, so you could get up to speed and cancel before getting charged, but I’m betting once you see everything on there (including Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, live sports, and Tulsa King) you’ll realize it’s easy to get your money’s worth and stick around.
