Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Slammed For Celebrating “National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day”

These days, it’s pretty tough to surprise me.

Over the course of the past decade, I’ve spent countless hours blogging, diving deep into the slimy underbelly of the interwebs, and I’ve just seen… a lot. Unconscionable examples of violence, disgusting examples of human depravity, blind stupidity and ignorance… I mean, everybody accidentally stumbles upon some messed up video they wished they didn’t see every once in a while, but with the amount of time I spent on the internet, I’m probably way more desensitized to awful things than the average American. Honestly, it’s probably not good for my mental health…

So like I said, I’m rarely surprised by stuff I see on the internet, but then I stumble upon this tweet from Libs Of TikTok, and I’m just dumbfounded. And I think “well, this is hyper-woke Oregon,” why would I be surprised by any of their ridiculous acts of virtue signaling under the guise of “progress?”

But then I looked it up, and as it turns out, “National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day” is a real thing… and has been since 1996?

Yesterday, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Co-Chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) and Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), reportedly led their colleagues in reintroducing a resolution to honor abortion providers and staff by designating March 10, 2025 as “Abortion Provider Appreciation Day.” The resolution was inspired by Dr. David Gunn, an abortion provider who was killed outside his clinic in Pensacola, Florida, on March 10th, 1993.

And look, this is America… you’re free to think what you want about abortion. We all know it’s an extremely hot-button issue with a whole spectrum of opinion and viewpoints. Some people think abortion should be permissible at any point in a pregnancy, right up until the due date. Some think it should be permissible up until the point viability (the ability to survive outside of the womb), some think it should just be a general timeframe (8-20 weeks is common across many states and most countries in Europe). Some think only extreme cases should be grounds for an abortion, such as rape, incest, risk of death or serious injury to the mother, and some think there is no reason for there ever to be an abortion at all… total ban.

Since the overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022, it has been turned over to the states to set their own policies on the practice, which left some states scrambling to pass legislation, enacted bans in others, it’s all over the map… no pun intended. An actually, despite people absolutely losing their minds over it, abortions actually increased last year… to roughly 98,000 per MONTH in the United States.

Clearly, it’s a very nuanced issue that begs a ton of different questions like “When does life begin?” or “Whose life is more valuable?,” but regardless of where you may fall on the spectrum, I can’t help but agree with comedian Bill Burr’s take on the subject. Of course, Bill has devolved into quite the raging liberal recently, constantly griping about billionaires like Elon Musk from the comfort of his own multi-million California dollar home with his own personal helicopter which he’s gonna fly to the Crypto.com Arena for his sold out show in front of 20,000 fans. But not before he rants about the rich… gimme a break. I digress…

Back to my point, much like woke Bill, I don’t think I can have a serious conversation about abortion until you admit that it’s killing a baby.

I know that makes all you pro-choice folks squirm… it’s fine. Admitting it is the hardest part as they say…

And I know most pro-choice people can’t accept that, and I understand why. I wouldn’t want to confess that I support that either when it is framed that way, but we have to be honest about what is happening. Now, how we approach the policy surrounding it may be different, and we can have a conversation about that, but how can we thoughtfully move towards constructing policy if we can’t even agree on what’s at stake?

But here’s what I find the most disturbing… people actually celebrate it. I get some women are desperate, they feel hopeless and have one, some women, or God forbid young girls, medically NEED to have one to save their life. Maybe dad left and mom doesn’t want to raise it on her own, maybe it was a one night stand and now you feel like you’re life is over. The point is, these decisions are often times very hard, very traumatic moments that determine the rest of your life. Nobody wants to be in tis position… so I’ll say again, why are celebrating it? People celebrate abortion so much so that we’re out here declaring national holidays to honor doctors who carry it out. Here’s to the executioner! Here’s to the ones terminating 98,000 lives per month. Nearly 73 million per year worldwide. And we’re celebrating that? It grieves my heart. Much like it probably grieved the hearts of many women who have gone through it.

Seriously, what are we doing?

And of course, one of America’s premiere ice cream manufacturers, Vermont’s Ben & Jerry’s, was fully on board in the celebration. Now, it’s no secret that Ben & Jerry’s is hyper woke, but after they voiced their support for this fake holiday, they got some hefty backlash in the comments.

Like me, many were disturbed that this would be something worth celebrating, some were shocked to find out that Ben & Jerry’s would promote this, and some vowed to boycott the company entirely.

And it goes on and on and on like that…
