The Weather Channel Learns Why You Don’t Go Live From Bourbon Street As Woman Flashes Camera During Mardi Gras

You’d think they would know better.

Even if you’ve never been to New Orleans, one of the first things you think about with Bourbon Street is…girls flashing their boobs.

It’s a time honored tradition year-round, but it’s especially prevalent during Mardi Gras. I just got back from New Orleans, and any time you walk down Bourbon Street the balconies are filled with guys (and girls) offering cheap plastic beads in exchange for a quick peek. Hey, you can’t put a price on your dignity, but a 25-cent strand of beads is apparently a good start for some people.

Well yesterday was Mardi Gras, the biggest party day of the year in the Big Easy, and the Weather Channel made the bold move of going live from Bourbon Street to report on the weather. (We ended up getting about half an hour of heavy rain yesterday evening, but other than that the weather was perfect all weekend).

The Weather Channel decided to pull up the live feed from the webcam on the corner of Cat’s Meow, which is one of the more popular bars on Bourbon Street. The bar not only has karaoke, but there’s also a pretty good sized balcony that’s open to the public, so that means it’s a prime location for people to post up and dangle beads over the railing to entice young (and old) ladies to flash their boobs.

And luckily for the Weather Channel, they managed to go live at the same time as one of those transactions was going down between somebody on the balcony and a nice young lady on the street.

Luckily they were able to cut away just in time as the anchor realized what was happening, but man, seems like they should have expected that one. I took a video of confetti falling on Bourbon Street one night and couldn’t post it on social media because I got photobombed by a woman flashing her boobs. It happens.

And while the Weather Channel may have been caught off guard, it seems like everybody on TikTok knew exactly what was going to happen:

“Live footage of Mardi Gras? What could go wrong for television?”

“That went exactly as expected.”

“Maybe The Weather Channel will learn next time to NEVER go live on Bourbon Street around Mardi Gras again”

“I knew it was gonna be here by the way she came bouncing into the shot and started talking to someone on that balcony”

“It’s good to see the weather staying abreast of the latest trends”

“Live streaming Mardi Gras like that was definitely a choice…..”

“”I hope everyone in NO is taking those storms seriously” Ma’am obviously they’re not”

It’s also not the first time a network has learned their lesson about broadcasting live from Bourbon Street the hard way. ESPN made the mistake of showing a live shot during the Sugar Bowl last year, and sure enough, a woman in the background flopped ’em out on camera.

Gotta keep your head on a swivel on Bourbon, because you never know what you’re going to see…and by that I mean you should know EXACTLY what you’re going to see at this point.
