Viral Timelapse Video Shows West Texas Dust Storm Moving Into Fort Worth

If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there is a high chance that you woke up yesterday and looked outside your window to see an eerie scene.

On Monday night, storms rolled into DFW, with insane lightning, high-speed winds, and heavy rain. While the rain cleared up after a good storm, the wind remained, with folks experiencing wind speeds topping 70 miles per hour. The ripping wind led to severe damage around DFW, like the roof of Plano High School being ripped off.

After assessing the damage in the morning from the storms overnight, as the hours passed after sunrise, an eerie orange cast began to settle over DFW, which was very scary. Some thought this was the beginning signs of a tornado or the end of the world for the doomsday preppers. While most people chose to stay inside yesterday to avoid being blown off the road with the high-powered gusts of wind, those who braved the odd weather got an up close and personal view of the strange haze over the metroplex.

It turns out the orange tint to the sky was from West Texas.

What does that mean? Well, in West Texas, there is thick orange/red dirt, and the high-speed winds picked up the dust and carried it all the way to DFW. Earlier in the week, there was a haboob, an intense dust storm, in the Texas desert, which eventually cleared out, but instead of the dust settling back in West Texas, it traveled roughly 600 miles from the west to the northeast.

Fox News 4 Fort Worth set up a time-lapse video from their offices, capturing the red dust moving into and settling over the city in a creepy video. The video has gained viral attention since it was posted on social media, and it truly looks apocalyptic.

“Dust from West Texas blew into Dallas-Fort Worth on Tuesday.”

While the footage alone is wild, of course, the fine social media users came through with some top-notch comments. Read a few of our favorites while you’re here.
