Dads… you’ve got to love them.
When you become a parent, teaching your kids about the world’s dangers is essential. Always be alert, don’t go off with strangers, don’t answer spam texts or emails, don’t walk by yourself at night, don’t drink and drive, don’t text and drive… the list is long. You hope to instill a whole laundry list of rules in your sons and daughters to keep them safe, alert, and aware of what’s happening in the world.
While some parents might preach these values to their children, others will take action, showing them exactly what could happen if they don’t abide by these safety rules.
One father from Petersburg, Tennessee, taught his daughter a valuable lesson about locking her car doors. While they were out at the local Dollar General in the small town about 70 miles south of Nashville, his daughter ran into the store, leaving her car doors unlocked.
The creator did not specify if her father was in the same car as her or if the two were meeting at the location to shop, but when she returned to her car, she was shocked to see her Dad crouched down in the back seat.
“Thought I was about to lose my life outside of the Dollar General.”
She captioned the post. Once she identified the man hiding in the back seat of her car was not a murderer but her father, the two had a good laugh. But, of course, Dad had to make this into a teaching moment.
“You’ve got to lock your doors! You gotta be safe. Hey, a smaller feller could have hid in there.”
The daughter is laughing, but she thanks Dad for the valuable life lesson that even in small towns, you need to lock your doors when you leave your car. But, like most daughters do, she had to throw in a little burn on her father, noting that folks don’t get much smaller than him.
“No shorter, smaller (making a skinnier gesture). Thank you.”
No matter what size, this father is preparing his daughter for attackers of all shapes and sizes. In the video’s caption, the daughter noted that the man parked next to her got quite the show seeing all of this go down.
“When I tell you I let out some words when I realized someone was in my back seat. The guy in the car next to me was entertained to say the least lol.”
You never know what you’ll see at the local Dollar General.

The video took off online, gaining nearly 4 million views in less than 24 hours. The comments section on this post did not disappoint. Many viewers thought this was some random man instead of her father.
Check out a few of my favorites.
“I did not read the #dad part and thought a random country fellow is out there teaching life lessons in Dollar General parking lots.”
“HAAHAHAHAHAHHA I thought a random man was teaching you a life lesson I’m wheezing.”
“Thought this was a random guy until the love you.”
“I’m glad it was Dad. But being from a small country town, I wouldn’t be shocked if a random person did this too where I’m from.”
“In a little mountain town, I had a note left on my windshield that said ‘lock your doors. I stole your cupholder change as a lesson.’ And…sure as sh*t. Locked the doors on their way out, though.”
“My Dad STOLE my whole Dad to teach me this lesson. He parked it like 4 blocks over.”
“My brother used to come back from college without telling anyone and test me on if I’d survive a kidnapping.”
“Mom taught me how to lock my doors by stealing all my stuff out of my car without telling me and giving it back to me 8 months later for my birthday.”
“I didn’t read that it was your Dad first. I thought Dad was some random old man trying to teach you a lesson.”
“HAHAHA cackling at the fact I thought it was a random guy teaching you a life lesson.”
“He’s a dad for sure — oh he’s your dad hahahahha.”
