I see this as money well spent.
Ah, TouchTunes, the sign of a great dive bar. The audio streaming service is more than just a platform allowing you to pay for your favorite songs to be played over the modern-day jukebox; it’s also a bonding point between music lovers. No matter what genre you fancy, there is a high chance that you’ve spent some of your hard-earned cash to jump folks in line so you can hear your favorite song.
But let’s not kid ourselves; some of the best times we’ve all had with TouchTunes are when classic country twangers are blaring over the speakers.
While I am sure we have all had nights walking out of the bar where more money was spent on TouchTunes than your bar tab, I’ve known that I am never a top-dollar spender on the app. So, what is the number of plays and check-ins it takes to get you to this top 1% of TouchTunes users?
A conversation has been sparked thanks to the Bellied Up Podcast and one of their callers.
Each week, Charlie Berens and Myles, meet at a small town bar and take live calls from all over the Midwest and beyond. The callers can range from anyone trying to sell things, asking for advice, or just wanting to share how much they enjoy the podcast; you never know what you’ll get.
On an episode from last year, a caller asked Charlie and Myles if he had a TouchTunes addiction.
“I’m a big TouchTunes guy. I have over 5,609 plays. Do I have a problem, or am I just a good bar patron trying to set the vibe?”
The podcast hosts then asked this caller how much money that many plays had cost him, to which the caller estimated over $8,000. Woah… The hosts then, of course, asked hard-hitting questions about his go-to songs.
“You got to read the room a little bit, right? If it’s a small town bar, you’ve got to play Hank Williams Jr., or if you’re in a younger bar, you need to find some Luke Combs.”
The hosts then praise this caller for reading the room instead of using TouchTunes for his own personal gain, playing songs that might not bring the crowd enjoyment.
“I feel like all TouchTunes app owners should take a page out of your book, and ask not what TouchTunes can do for you but ask what you can do for the bar. John F. Kennedy said that…”
Charlie Berens said. Amen to that one, brother.
After hearing how much this man has spent on TouchTunes, that makes my couple hundred songs look like child’s play.

I watched his segment a few times before I headed to the comments section to see if any Karens were going to chime in about how that’s a horrible use of finances. But I was met with many comments from more TouchTunes patrons with even higher numbers than this man.
Check out some of the numbers left on this post:
“7,914 plays and 1289 bars.”
“I got homie beat by a mile. 10,178 plays, then 1,530 check-ins.”
“15,962 plays and 1,651 check-ins”
“5,065 with 590 check-ins.”
“8,393 plays. 577 check-ins.”
“11,887 plays 1,108 check-ins…”
“I have over 11,000 plays, and most of it is to either make myself laugh or annoy other people.”
“I thought my 2,570 songs was wild!”
Maybe these folks need to think about a career change and become DJs…
It looks like I’ve got some homework to do to catch up with these numbers. If anyone over 15k plays, TouchTunes needs to give you a trophy.
