Welp, one and done.
I don’t think it’ll come as a huge shock to anybody, but Netflix’s Territory, which was absolutely their answer to the insane success of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, has officially been canceled after just one season.
If you’re not familiar, Territory is an Australian Western drama series that premiered on Netflix in October last year. Created by Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, the six-episode series delves into the power struggles within the Lawson family, owners of the vast Marianne Station—the world’s largest cattle station. Following the suspicious death of Daniel Lawson, the family’s favored son, the series explores the ensuing battle for succession among family members and external rivals, including other cattle station owners, gangsters, Indigenous elders, and mining magnates.
The cast features Anna Torv as Emily Lawson, Michael Dorman as Graham Lawson, Robert Taylor as patriarch Colin Lawson, and Sam Corlett as Marshall Lawson. Filming took place in notable Australian locations such as Tipperary Station and Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, as well as Mallala in South Australia. The production was a significant endeavor, marking one of the largest local productions filmed in both regions.
Here’s a quick look at the trailer:
It entered Netflix’s top 10 in 74 different countries and drawing comparisons, however due to the show’s large production scale, and the amount of time it will take to get a second season to market (basically it would be a very long time), the show has been canceled.
According to What’s On Netflix, Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand, Que Min Luu, released the following statement:
“We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
Overall, the reactions have been pretty mixed:

The show was boring too. Tried watching it but did not finish ep 1.

Damn shame, territory was a good show. First they screw Anna Torv with Mindhunter hiatus / who knows. Now they cancel this which could have been their Yellowstone. If continued better. https://t.co/4esfl9cuHp

Aussie Yellowstone but blander.

Territory – poorly written. Overacting. Pub fight scenes-seriously slapstick.
Some great actors, but talent wasted. Excellent scenery, but not carried by the patchy plot. Who hands over a massive property to a drop in grandson?
Don’t waste your time. Cancel it now.

@netflix why on earth have you cancelled "Territory"? You show so much shit yet cancel really good shows. What's the point in airing them in the first place

I could not get past the first 5 minutes of the new Netflix Australian series Territory. It was so nauseating woke I quickly turned it off.

But the real kicker is that Season 1 ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, and now, fans are BIG MAD that they’re not gonna ever know what was in the safe…
Netflix makes this WOKE BS, then cancelled Territory after 1 season. There is literally no reason to watch a new show anymore when everything ends on a cancelled cliffhanger.

Then I need to know what was in the safe https://t.co/oY07E1dSLY
