Trump already helping out one business.
It’s been a little over a month since President Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States, an election he won largely thanks to his promises to fix the struggling economy, combat inflation, and help out American businesses. And it sounds like for NASCAR Cup Series driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and his Hyak Motorsports team, he’s doing just that…but maybe not in the way you would expect.
Of course Stenhouse drives the #47 car in the Cup Series (at least until he wrecks it about halfway through a race, but that’s a different story). And Stenhouse says that sales of his #47 merch have shot up since Trump was re-elected as the 47th president:
“We are making a killing on the 47 hats. Madison’s been busy shipping out a lot of hats. It’s been cool, we’ve had ’em for two or three years now and it’s always our best-selling hat, now it’s selling a lot. So it’s good…
I guess it’s got double meanings now.”

The specific hat Stenhouse is referring to is the #47 hat featuring the red, white and blue American flag colors, and it’s pretty obvious why it’s a hit among fans of President Trump.
Stenhouse has driven the #47 car since 2020, so he probably got a little excited when he saw his merch sales start to shoot up – at least until he figured out why people wanted to get their hands on the hat. But still, a little extra money in his pocket thanks to fans of our 47th president can’t hurt – especially when a lot of that has to go towards fixing torn up race cars every week. (I’m kidding, not about the torn up race cars but I assume the team doesn’t make Stenhouse pay out of pocket when he tears up a car).
And I’m being a little hard on Wrecky Spinhouse here. He gets a bad reputation for wrecking a lot, including incidents the past two weeks that took out Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski at Atlanta and…well, half the field at Daytona.
But Stenhouse is also responsible for one of the most iconic NASCAR memes from the past year. After Kyle Busch sent Stenhouse into the wall during the 2024 NASCAR All-Star Race, Stenhouse parked his car in Busch’s pit box and promised to be waiting for him after the race. And sure enough, he was there beside Busch’s hauler waiting on him when the race was over, landing a right hook on Busch’s jaw and causing a massive brawl in the garage area at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Stenhouse has won 4 races during his NASCAR Cup Series career, including last year at Talladega and the 2023 Daytona 500, a victory that he celebrated by drunkenly taking the trophy with him to Waffle House after the race.

He may not be the best driver out there, but he’s at least entertaining. And it sounds like he’s going to be seeing a lot more of his gear in the stands on race day – even if it’s thanks to fans of President Donald Trump.
