Probably in dad’s best interest…
A couple of weeks ago, Barstool Sports announced that retired MLB pitcher John Rocker would be fighting Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes, during Rough ‘N Rowdy in April.
Now, obviously Mahomes Sr., himself a former MLB pitcher, has had his troubles in the past. The elder Mahomes is currently on probation for his third DWI, which caused some problems when he traveled to New Orleans earlier this month to watch his son play in the Super Bowl.
A video surfaced showing Rocker and Mahomes getting into an altercation with each other on Bourbon Street, and though the fight hadn’t officially been announced at that point, many were wondering whether it was a publicity stunt for the rumored matchup.

And when questioned over the video in court, Mahomes admitted that it was a staged altercation to promote their upcoming fight.
But now, it appears the fight is off.
According to Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy, the event was canceled after the Chiefs QB and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, pulled the plug on it and threatened to cut off the elder Mahomes if he went through with it:
“They came to us to do this. How would we ever come up with this concept, like ‘Oh, let’s put John Rocker versus Patrick Mahomes Sr.’ Who would ever think of that?
They came to us, said they hated each other and wanted to fight. Devlin, who does the Rough ‘N Rowdy, put it together, like yeah, they want to fight, let’s do it.
Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany from what I am told, intervened and was like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening. We’re going to cut this guy off if he does it.’ So they canceled it.”

We don’t know why they didn’t want the fight to happen, and the obvious assumption would be to protect Patrick Mahomes Sr. from getting his shit rocked (no pun intended), because the guy clearly doesn’t make the best decisions for himself. But the QB has his own beef with Barstool, reportedly refusing to appear on the company’s podcasts over their posts about him and his family.
Portnoy denied that he had anything to do with the viral video of the fight between Mahomes Sr. and Rocker on Bourbon Street, but it seems like it was put together by somebody affiliated with the fight (whether it was somebody else at Barstool or the fighters themselves) to promote the event.
Although it does sound like the two genuinely hate each other…
You really haven't changed one bit in the last 25 years.
Keep my name out your loud mouth.

According to the contract for the event, which Mahomes Sr. presented in court while trying to explain the fight, he was set to receive $85,000 for the event, plus the opportunity for more from pay-per-view streams. And Portnoy used the event to troll the Chiefs QB over his hatred for Barstool:
“I know Patty Mahomes, the Super Bowl guy, the guy who just got his doors blown off, said he hated Barstool. Well now your dad’s fighting in our company against John Rocker. I’m gonna save a seat, free of charge. Patty Mahomes and crew, no bad blood, we can make up, watch your dad fight. That’s an open invite. You say you don’t like us, I get your dad to fight in Rough ‘N Rowdy.”
It’s official. The paperwork was signed today. Pat Mahomes Sr vs John Rocker at Rough N Rowdy. April 19th. Real bad blood. @roughnrowdy https://t.co/Ax3r40WBwa pic.twitter.com/abVsaD5oGE

Feel like that may have something to do with why the fight was canceled.
