Always love to see a movie character with a good taste in music.
Earlier today, Warner Brothers released the trailer for the sequel to 2016’s crime thriller The Accountant. If you guessed that the name of the second movie would be The Accountant 2, you’re today’s lucky winner! You win the prize of being able to read on in this story about the sequel that seems to feature a country music cameo of sorts.
Let me tell you… this trailer makes this movie look like an all timer. Good trailers are important, but I typically try not to get too caught up in them. Often times, a trailer can reveals portions of the best parts of the film. Even if that’s the case here, there’s a good chance I’ll be seated for The Accountant 2 on opening weekend.
The sequel, which will see Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons return to reprise their roles, has this short-but-sick (sick in a good way) synopsis:
“Forensic accountant Christian Wolff teams up with his estranged but highly lethal brother to track down mysterious assassins.”
SAY LESS.
I don’t know if anyone really expected to see a sequel to the first The Accountant movie, but now that it’s happening, I’m all for it. After all, it’s been nine years since the original hit the big screen. That being said, it was considered to be a box office success, bringing in $155 million worldwide with a budget of $44 million.
Pretty good return on investment, I’d say.
So now, the story continues with Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff teaming up with his brother Brax, played by Jon Bernthal. Personally, I’ll watch just about anything that Bernthal is involved in, and pairing him up once again with Affleck (who is coming off yet another successful Super Bowl ad campaign) just makes sense.
And as I was watching through the trailer for the film that’s set to hit theaters on April 25th, I happened to notice that the wardrobe department must consist of some outlaw country fans. That or they thought Bernthal’s Brax character would love the classic country stylings of Waylon Jennings.
Around the two minute mark of the video below, you’ll see Jon Bernthal rocking a Waylon Jennings t-shirt that showcases Waylon’s famous “Flying W” logo. The w-shaped symbol was tied to Jennings as it represented the freedom he experienced through being an outlaw of country music. Probably only makes sense that a man who takes matters into his own hands would be a fan of Waylon’s music.
Also, today is the 23 year anniversary of Waylon’s death, so I suppose it’s only fitting to drop the trailer today:

Kind of feel like I just watched the movie after locking into that trailer, you know what I’m saying?
That was a three-minute long joyride of a preview, and the Waylon Jennings cameo only made it that much better. There are going to be plenty of fans from the first film that go and see this one, and based on the response to the trailer online, it looks like plenty of others will follow suit:
IM SO THERE
