Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.
A Nike advertising executive could be sitting right across from me and tell me that they didn’t intentionally use Kermit the Frog’s voice in this congratulatory Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl video and I still wouldn’t believe them. There’s such a thing as coincidences, but this simply cannot be one of them.
You don’t just randomly use “Bein’ Green” by Kermit the Frog in a video after the Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
If you aren’t following along so far, I’ll just come out and make things very clear. Yes, Patrick Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game (that conversation has slowed in recent days), and yes, he sounds a bit like Kermit the Frog when he talks.
That connection has actually led to a number of controversial incidents, like when the Las Vegas Raiders had a Kermit doll dressed up as Mahomes at their training camp, or when a tailgate consisting of Buffalo Bills fans appeared to hang a Kermit doll with a Chiefs jersey on. Patrick Mahomes has always taken it in stride… and he’s never really tried to downplay the fact that he sounds a bit like the famous Muppet character.
But because of all of the history of comparisons there, that’s all people could think about when Nike released this video after the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl this past weekend:
It’s Good to be Green. pic.twitter.com/uUYClYriNV

I went and checked the real lyrics of Kermit’s greatest hit and it does mention the colors “red, yellow, or gold,” which just so happen to represent the Kansas City Chiefs. So maybe that does give the benefit of the doubt to Nike.
However, if you were to visit the replies and quotes of the video (it’s a beautifully done commercial, might I add), you’ll see that no one is focused on the lyrics. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is making the same Patrick Mahomes joke.
And somehow it doesn’t get old, no matter how repetitive it is:
Didn’t realize that Patrick Mahomes was on the track

No shot Nike just used Kermit’s song talking about being green rather than red after Adidas athlete Patrick Mahomes who sounds like Kermit just lost the Super Bowl. While wearing red. Against Eagles wearing green. https://t.co/28E28xpjjQ pic.twitter.com/szu2NjkAGp
