It seems like President Donald Trump has broken a lot of people over the past few weeks, since being sworn in for his second term less than a month ago. Of course these are the same people that were broken during his first term, but it seems like nobody on the left really expected him to win in 2024, so they’re having a really hard time coming to terms with it.
Democrats have already challenged several of Trump’s early actions in court, but mostly it seems like they’ve been caught flat-footed with the blistering pace at which his administration is moving to make sweeping changes to our government. So mostly, they’re just screaming about it.
Last week we got this awkward moment from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who apparently doesn’t know how to lead a chant and ended up epitomizing the mess that the Democrat party is in right now:

And yesterday, Dems held another rally to…well, I’m not sure what the point of it was other than to scream at the clouds. But it did give us this hilariously cringeworthy moment from Congresswoman Maxine Dexter of Oregon:
“I am going to tell you that we do have to – I don’t swear in public very well, but we have to fuck Trump.
Please don’t tell my children that I just did that.”
Your children? Should probably be more worried about what your husband thinks about your fantasies.

It seems like this is the problem that Democrats have right now: They try to come across as normal people and they just can’t do it. It’s a big part of the reason Kamala Harris lost in the first place…Americans just couldn’t relate to her. They tried to paint Vice President JD Vance as “weird,” but then run Tim Walz as their vice presidential candidate? JD Vance is the most normal, average dude that I’ve ever seen in politics.
It reminds me of another awkward moment from a couple years ago when a politician tried to come off as “relatable” and totally missed the mark. Remember when Senator Elizabeth Warren did her bizarre livestream where she awkwardly drank a beer and told her husband that she was glad that he was there? Glad that he was in their own home? These people just can’t be normal.
Even the late night shows mocked it as an awkward attempt to appear relatable:
