Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Expected To Fight Former MLB Pitcher John Rocker In Boxing Match, Start The Trash Talk On The Street In New Orleans

A big brawl almost broke out in the “Big Easy.”

If only the Super Bowl in New Orleans would have featured as much fight as this video, which shows former MLB pitcher and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Sr. getting into it with former MLB pitcher John Rocker. From the looks of this clip below, Bourbon Street almost hosted a fight for the ages (and one that would have definitely been more entertaining than Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul).

It appears that Patrick Mahomes Sr., who was obviously in town to cheer on his son in the Super Bowl, was just standing on Bourbon Street minding his own business when John Rocker (who still looks like he could give you a couple of innings) approached him and quickly became agitated.

Pretty public place to almost have a squabble, am I right? And how convenient that it all went down during Super Bowl weekend?

The plot thickened when John Rocker himself reposted the video (that Barstool Sports had posted) and had this to say about the interaction he had with Patrick Mahomes’ father:

“The f**king loser can’t take a damn joke. Wish I laid him out right there and ruined his bullshit weekend even more.”

If I’m not mistaken… those are fighting words right there.

The video started spreading quickly online, because who wouldn’t want to see if two former MLB pitchers still have their fast ball? Going by appearance alone, I’d definitely side with Rocker over Mahomes Sr. Plus, why would you bet against someone in a fight who has the last name Rocker? It’s like he was born to knock someone out.

And speaking of a fight, if the video above and Rocker’s threatening reply seemed too good to be true, that’s because it looks like it is. Someone online pointed out that the altercation was likely either staged or happened at an incredibly convenient time, because Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy seemed to confirm a sanctioned fight (hosted by Barstool’s Rough N’ Rowdy) between Rocker and Mahomes Sr. was soon to be announced:

As you heard Portnoy say in the video below, the rumors are true. The Daily Mail confirmed with Dave Portnoy that Patrick Mahomes Sr. signed a contract with Barstool Sports to fight former MLB star John Rocker at the upcoming Rough N’ Rowdy event. It’s somewhat of a weird turn for Mahomes Sr., who as of late has struggled publicly with three separate DWI arrests (2008, 2019, 2024).

If Patrick Mahomes Sr. is doing this to clear some of the tarnish off of his name, maybe he should consider that 1) his son has already done plenty and 2) he could start with just not getting arrested for driving while under the influence. It all seems a bit weird and desperate, but if he’s getting paid big time by Barstool Sports to step into the ring, maybe it’s too much money to pass up.

And even if the video above was staged, I think Rocker’s message he shared in his repost was very much real. I certainly wouldn’t want to step inside the ring opposite of John Rocker… but damn it, I’d probably tune in to watch somebody else give it a try.
