Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Dan Patrick has had his own show for quite some time now, and dating all the way back to The Waterboy, has had a friendship with Adam Sandler that's netted him appearances in multiple Sandman projects.
With Happy Gilmore 2 on the way at Netflix, Patrick was naturally intrigued by what the premise could be. In an interview with Sandler, who was in Italy and had some rather serendipitous reception issues to help fend off hardball questions, Patrick pressed the comedy legend for plot details. Sandler hinted that there are a ton of ideas that he's trying to make flow into a cohesive narrative, but confirmed that as of now, Happy will still be on the PGA Tour, presumably fighting off the twilight of his career.
"We have a million things like I told you, but I’ve just got to kind of make it flow a little more. But I think it might have to do with something to do with me being a little older now, and still trying to compete with the youngsters."
Some big-name cameos from the first installment of the soon-to-be Happy Gilmore duology included renowned announcer Verne Lundquist and golf icon Lee Trevino. It stands to reason that this long-awaited sequel will sport some serious star power if Sandler's aspirations are any indication. He told Patrick that his longtime collaborator, Tim Herlihy, was at the PGA Championship this past week. While at Valhalla, Herlihy bumped into none other than the one and only John Daly.
"Herlihy, he went down to the tournament this weekend and hung out with some of the guys. He hung out with Daly a little bit and Daly was telling some great stories. We're ready, baby. We're excited."
Sandler said he's always loved Daly and "would like to think" he'd be up for a role in Happy Gilmore 2. Oh yeah, then Patrick pushed further and asked if Tiger Woods is in it. This was when the virtual connectivity issues really started to hit, yet Sandler didn't exactly rule out a wild Tiger sighting in the flick.
"I would love it. We’ll see. I’m gonna write all my dreams, and then you never know what’s gonna happen. But we’re gonna [try]."

Sometimes massive cameo fests can be gratuitous, too focused on fan service, and ultimately water down the final product. The good news is that Sandler has been sitting on ideas for a Happy sequel for almost three decades, so the fact that he's cracked a worthy story to tell is something I'll hold onto.
Netflix pours countless dollars into original content. It makes me sad that their highly anticipated projects seldom secure a wide theatrical release. Case in point: Glen Powell's Hit Man, which is in limited theaters starting this week before hitting the streamer on June 7.
Powell is everywhere these days. Maybe people are already tiring of him. I'm not. This performance looks on par with something like Val Kilmer in The Saint in terms of versatility and charisma. Hit Man is also directed by Richard Linklater, has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is co-written and co-produced by Linklater and Powell. The film costars Andor breakout Adria Arjona, too!
If Happy gets the same treatment as Hit Man, I'll be livid. Make it happen, Netflix. Put Happy's return in cinemas across the nation/globe. Or you'll pay. LISTEN to what I say!!
