CJ Stroud

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud had what many consider the best rookie season at his position in NFL history, but all indications are he's just as good, if not better, as a human being. A major storm known as a Derecho hit the Houston area on Thursday, causing lots of property damage and even some deaths. Winds were up to 100 mph, hundreds of thousands of people lost power, and there are a lot of devastating scenes making the rounds on news cycles. Stroud took the initiative to help out with volunteer efforts to clean up in the aftermath, and even treated a youngster to game of catch in the front yard. https://twitter.com/ashleeonair/status/1792311395159265634 https://twitter.com/HoustonTexans/status/1792610107194487274 The boy has an arm, too! I see the action. Nice whip of a southpaw release. And you can tell this isn't Stroud posing for the camera, or going out of his way to make sure he looks good for PR/image purposes. By all accounts, he's a genuinely good dude. Stroud became an instant superstar franchise QB in 2023. An A+ player with an A++ from a character standpoint based on anyone who shares their thoughts about him. That's how the Texans have gone from a joke of an organization to an AFC South champion and playoff winner. Get the quarterback right, and everything else falls into place. During his playing career, JJ Watt set such a high bar for philanthropic efforts in Houston. It looks like Stroud has no intentions of slacking in that regard, despite the obvious, huge responsibility it is to be a high-level starting QB in the NFL. Sure, it's possible the Texans take a step back this season now that they've risen from the basement of the league to reigning division champs. We'll see how Stroud and Co. respond with a target on their backs. And it remains to be seen if Stroud can maintain his high level of play. Or if the Texans can capitalize and win a Super bowl before he gets a mega contract. Or if star offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's eventual departure for a head coaching position has any impact on Stroud's continued development. All I know is, Stroud is as gifted of an all-around thrower as there is on the planet, and he's clearly made of the right stuff mentally. Therefore, there is no universe in which I would bet against him. Thank goodness a talent like Stroud didn't have to play for the Panthers and owner David Tepper. What a mess that operation is. Instead, Stroud is slinging dimes all over the lot in H-Town — on the gridiron and in the community. https://twitter.com/HoustonTexans/status/1775208950218068449
