“We Were So Close To Ending It” – NFL Mocked After Announcing They Would Be Removing “End Racism” From The End Zone For The Super Bowl

Chiefs Super Bowl 2024

Does that mean it worked, or not? We all know what was going on back in 2020, when corporations were tripping over themselves to prove how inclusive and against racism they were, rolling out meaningless gestures one after the other as most Americans just rolled their eyes at this corporate virtue signaling. And speaking of meaningless gestures, the NFL decided back in 2020 to paint various slogans in their end zones designed to promote diversity and inclusion, with messages like "End Racism," "Stop Hate" and "It Takes All Of Us" making appearances on the field as part of their "Inspire Change" campaign. Clearly these did nothing but make the NFL feel like they were actually doing something good, while allowing sexual predators to sign massive contracts and doing nothing to address domestic violence within the league. Guess those players didn't spend enough time in the endzone. But anyway, the past two Super Bowls have featured the "End Racism" message painted in the back of the end zone. And apparently the messages worked pretty well, because the league decided they're no longer necessary and won't be making an appearance on the field at the Super Bowl this weekend. A report from The Athletic confirms that the NFL has decided to remove the "End Racism" message, instead choosing to paint "Choose Love" and "It Takes All Of Us" for the upcoming game at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, personally I'm disappointed that the NFL is apparently pro-racism now. That's how that works, right? NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says that the change was inspired out of sensitivity to the recent terrorist attack in New Orleans, as well as the plane crash in Washington DC and the Los Angeles wildfires: "We felt it was an appropriate statement for what the country has collectively endured, given recent tragedies, and can serve as an inspiration." But after the change was announced, the NFL was mocked for their empty platitudes on social media: https://twitter.com/TJMoe28/status/1886848320015909071 https://twitter.com/TropicanaTwista/status/1886878804628369698 https://twitter.com/BMT8991/status/1886836910389084434 https://twitter.com/Boston__Sucks/status/1886862851773772202 Despite the fact that the message won't be in the end zone, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed yesterday that they would be moving forward with their diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives even as other companies have decided to scale back or eliminate them: "We got into diversity efforts because we felt it was the right thing for the National Football League, and we're going to continue those efforts because we've not only convinced ourselves, I think we've proven ourselves that it does make the NFL better. So, we're not in this because it's a trend to get in or a trend to get out of it, our efforts are fundamental in trying to attract the best possible talent into the National Football League, both on and off the field, as I said previously. And we see that. We see how it's benefited the National Football League. And so, I think we'll continue those efforts. I think it's also clearly a reflection of our fan base and our communities and our players." Of course ending DEI has been a major focus of President Donald Trump's second term, and it was announced earlier today that Trump is expected to attend the Super Bowl as a guest of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson. So naturally, there are people who believe that the move from the NFL is somehow the league giving in to Trump so they don't make him mad during the game. But let's be honest, does anybody really think it made any difference in the first place?
